Today, we compared ants, bees, ladybugs, and spiders! We counted the number of legs, antennas, wings, and body parts! We talked about which had the most and least. We also talked about similarities and differences, for example the bee and ladybug have the same number of legs, wings, antennas, and body parts but they are not the same. We talked about what makes them different! You can do this too!
You can use the first picture to compare the insects, and the second picture is the chart your child should have at home!
Today in Math each student got a turn to spin a wheel with numbers 1-10. Students then counted out that amount of honey comb and placed them on their beehive. We suggested if kids wanted to, they could glue the honey comb on their beehive and color the rest!
Today we played a game while we colored in the dots of a ladybug. We took turn spinning a spinner, saying what number it was, and then coloring in that amount of dots on our paper! We used different colors and after it was all colored in, we compared our dots! What color did we have the most of? What color did we have the least of? How many did we have all together? If you click the picture of the lady bug, it will bring you to the spinner we used in class!
Today in math we made spider webs with our paper plates and string. We wound the string around the plate until we had no more string. As we wound the string, we had students count how many times they got around. They then either drew a spider on their plate OR put the plastic spider we gave them on it. They then tried to talk about different shapes they saw in the web.
Today in math, we played play dough pictionary. The teacher drew a shape on the dry erase board and students made that with their play dough. Slowly shapes were added to reveal a whole object. For example, we did a circle, two triangles, 2 ovals, and a crescent to make a cat. This is s fun hands on way to review shapes
Today for math we did made our own garden! We really want to see what your child can do on their own, please don't do this activity for them. Have your child write a number in the boxes on the right, then draw the corresponding number of pictures to go with it. On the first line have your child draw bugs, then flowers, fruit, and finally vegetables!
Once your child finishes this PLEASE send a photo to us on ClassDOJO, thank you!
For today's math, we pretended to catch bugs in a jar and count them. We used on online spinner (you can click the picture on the left to use the spinner). After we identified the number, we then used our black beans and pretended they were bugs and counted that many in our jar. We did this a few times.
Today we continued to work on counting with 1:1 correspondence (touching one item per number) and then writing the number we counted. We counted butterflies, you can count butterflies too or anything else you would like! Challenge your child to be able to count and write numbers 1-20!
Today in math, we used our bug sheet to count how many of each bug there was. We then wrote this number by the bug. After counting all the bugs, we talked about which bug had the most and the least.
Today in math we continued to count things and then writing the number we counted. Have your student count with 1:1 correspondence (touching each objects as you count it). Once they have counted it practice writing the number, if your child needs help you can offer then examples of the number for them to copy.
Today in Math students worked on recognizing the number and drawing that many things. Students can practice writing a number and telling what that number is?
Today in math we were working with 10-Frames (shown to the right). We had kids count the dots and then identify the number. Example, if they counted seven dots they had to identify/write the number 7. You can practice this skill, counting and writing numbers from 1-20.
Today in Math students counted the objects on the worksheet and wrote the correct number to match the objects. Students can practice at home by recognizing a number and drawing that many objects.
Today we did a summer math game! We showed students a number and had them identify which number it is and had them count to it. Then, we picked summer objects, like a sun or a beach pail, and drew the number of objects. For example if I showed them the number 4, they counted to 4 and then drew 4 suns!
Today we continued our lessons about fruit by putting the correct number of fruit on the trees, bushes, and vines they grow on! I gave the students clues, like "they are round fruits. They can be red, green, or yellow and they are crunchy! what fruit is it?" Then we would draw the 10 apples on the tree. You can complete this with your students at home and send us a photo on Class Dojo when it is completed!
Today in Math we played an online game (Boom- card Learning). Each student took turns to count the bubbles and write the number on the white board. Children can practice this at home by writing a number and drawing that many bubbles.
Today we played a watermelon seed game! We took turns spinning a spinner and adding the number of seeds we spun to our watermelon! If you want you can use the online spinner just click the underlined words here: https://pickerwheel.com/
Or you can just write numbers on a whiteboard for your student!

Today in Math we completed the Fruit Jumble Counting worksheet. This week we are talking about fruit. While doing this weeksheet we were able to review the names of the fruits as well as count and color them. At the end of the worksheet we were able to identify which fruit we had the most of and which fruit we had the least of. Students are to share the worksheet on DOJO when it is completed.
Today we worked on a color and count vegetable sheet. Students picked a crayon color for each vegetable and as they colored that vegetable, they counted how many there were. They then wrote the correct number next to it.
Today in Math students worked on their own individual counting worksheets. Students were asked to say the numbers from 1-20 or more. Everyone did an amazing job! Students will have to finish their worksheets and turn it in for homework.
Today in math we made a vegtable graph. Students had to count the vegtables and color in the correct number of boxes. After the graph was completed, as a class we figured out which vegtable had the higest and lowest amounts!
Today we played a counting game with vegetables. You can play this game at home by drawing vegetables on a white board, have your child count them, and then have them write the correct number of how many vegetables there are. Do this with numbers your child struggles with. If they know numbers 1-10, challenge them to count higher amounts of vegetables.
Today in Math, students completed a Counting Carrots worksheet. Students had to count the carrots and then connect them with a line to the written number. This worksheet helped with counting and number recognition.
Today we worked on ordering numbers on flower pots. Students worked together to find and write the correct missing number.

Today in Math we played number Bingo. Students recognized the picked number and placed a glass bead on the number that was called out.
Today in math we practiced number recognition. Each student had to identify the correct number told by the teacher and then color it a certain color. Each student then had a chance to pick a number and color to tell the class.
Today in Math we worked on the shape worksheet. Students recognized each shape and counted how many sides each shape had. Students counted different shapes on their worksheet and put the correct number for the counted shapes. Students can practice looking at different objects at home or outside and tell the name of the shape and how many sides that shape has.
Today for Math students cut out shapes and created two flowers using them. Students were able to review their shapes while creating flowers. At the end of the activity, students were asked to count and write out the corrent number of shapes they used. We also ask that the students color the flower and add any additional details to their picture.
Today we worked on identifying numbers 1-15 and counting those numbers too! We used our flower worksheet and the glass beads as petals to count! We showed students a number, asked them what number it was and if they could count that many petals for us! You can do this at home with your student and see how high they can count!
Today for Math we worked on a counting worksheet. For this worksheet, students cut out the numbers at the end of the page. We then counted the number of seeds on each apple, and glued the correct number under the picture. We then practiced writing the number next to the cut out.
Today for math we practiced counting and cutting. We took turns counting out loud and then we cut out puzzles and put them back together by putting the numbers in order!
In Math today we did our cross out the litter counting sheet. We identified how many items of each piece of litter we had to find and then found and crossed them out on the sheet. As we crossed them out, we asked students to try to use words like, "It's next to the ___. It's under the ___. "etc.
In Math we worked on the Earth Graph, students counted the things like trees, flowers, raindrops, earth, and the recycle symbol. Then, they colored each box for that many numbers for each things. Students compared which things were more than or less than. At home, students can practice comparing numbers like 8 is more than 5.
In Math we played an online game. Students did addition and subtraction using the number line. Students worked on recognizing plus and minus sign to understand that for plus (+) they had to count forward on the number line, and for minus (-) they had moved backward on the number line. Students can practice this at home using a White board and Expo markers.
Today in Math we did the Color By Sides worksheet. Students had to count the number of sides on each shape and determine what color to color the shape depending on the number of sides. As we went through the worksheet, we reviewed each shape's name as well. This worksheet is helping us celebrate Earth Day this week!
Today we did patterns with our shape sheet. Student were asked to fill in the missing shape. You can help your child with the first few, and then challenge them to do the last few on their own.
Today we continued to talk about patterns with our Flower Garden worksheet! Have your child cut out the pictures at the bottom and glue them in the boxes on the right to complete the patterns. After your child can color the pictures!
In math today, we continued learning about patterns. The first two patterns we started and had students finish. The last row, we let students create their own pattern. Remember to remind them that patterns are doing the same thing in the same order over and over again.
Today we continued to work on patters. We reminded students that patterns are things that are two or more things that happen again, and again, the same way. We used two colors for the first two rows and three colors for the last row! Teachers started the pattern for the students and then had them finish the patterns independently.
Today in Math we worked on patterns. Patterns are series or sequence that repeats. We worked on a Pajama worksheet and created patterns to finish the math activity. Children can practice these on plain paper or white board using different lines, shapes, or colors.
Today we had fun in math with a simple hiding game! We hid a "pot of gold" under marked number cups and had the students guess which cup the gold was under. We practiced counting and this game helped us with number identification. We just did numbers 1-8 but you could challenged your child but doing higher numbers and putting them out of order!
Today in math we finished the Pot of Gold math Worksheets. For this worksheet, students identified the correct number on the pot and then drew coins that matched. This activity helped students identify their numbers and count out quantities that matched.
Today in Math we worked on the Rainbow strips with the cloud. We picked a number and drew that many number of coins on the strip. Children recognized the number on the top of the strip and counted them while drawing the coins (circles). Children can use the other side of the strips to write any number and draw on the strip while counting that number.
Today in math we picked random numbers and counted out fruit loops that matched that number. Students then took the fruit loops and put them on a string. As they did this, we had them count out the fruit loops. For today's steam activity, kids will cut out and add their green shamrock to their fruit look necklace.
Today for math we continued to practice measuring things with an online game. At home, you can have your child measure common household items with a ruler, blocks, or shoes!
For STEAM today we had students draw a picture of what they think a scientist and/or engineer looks like! You can add details to show what tools or materials they might use and what they wear! Please draw this photo on the back of the last page of your student's PLTW Launch Log journal!
Today is math we did an activity using Boom Cards. Students were asked to count the correct number of gold coins on the screen. They had to pick the correct number and then write the number on their white board. This activity was to help students count 1-20 and to practice writing their numbers.
Today in math we worked on our Spring Measurment worksheet. We used unifix cubes to measure each of the six pictures on the page. We then counted each of the cubes to determine how tall each picture was. After we figured out the correct number, we wrote it in the box.
Today we used our unifix cubes to measure household school supplies. We started by making guesses, looking at what we were going to measure and making a prediction that we wrote down. Then we lined, or stacked our unifix cubes up to see how big each item actually was. After we compared our numbers to see how close our guess was. You can do this at home with your unifix cubes and household supplies like pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, and such.
Today in Math we played an online measurement game. Children counted the numbers by looking at the centimeter ruler and started from zero to count how long an object was. Children learned to count up to the tip of an object to get the correct answer. Children can practice using centimeter ruler to measure any objects at home.
Today in Math we drew a flower on a white board and placed our unifix cubes to measure how many cubes were used to measure the flower. For extra practice children can use the cubes to measure different objects at home.
Today we did our Party Measurement sheet. We counted how many blocks tall each item was and before we counted the next item, we made predictions was it going to be taller or shorter? After we completed the whole sheet, we talked about which item was the tallest and which was the shortest.
Today in Math, using the knee-high man we measured different objects on the worksheet to compare if our knee high man was taller or shorter than the objects in our classroom. After measuring, we circled the objects that were taller.
Today in ELA we read the Knee High Man. So for math we made our own, Knee High Man! Using your skinny lined paper, measure how high your child's knee is and then cut the paper that height. Then taking up the whole paper, draw your knee high man! Use lots of color and add details and then SAVE your man because we will use him tomorrow to measure things!
Today in Math we played an online measurement game. Students were asked to answer which animal was taller or shorter. Students can practice this with an adult by drawing a bigger or smaller animals or shapes and ask or tell, "Which is taller?" or "Which is shorter?" This activity will help students to compare and learn to order three or more objects.
Today in Math we worked on a flower measurement worksheet. We had to count and color the total number of cubes tall for each flower. Through this activity students were able to practice their counting as well as writing out the appropriate number on the line.
Today we used our shape sheet to talk about how many sides are on each shape. A side is a flat surface on a shape. After we counted how many sides there were, we circled the correct number. We also talked about how a lot of shapes have 4 sides, but what makes them different.
Today we had two different math groups, one group learned about Touch-Point Math. The picture to the left is an example of it. This type of math helps students learn the value of each number, have your child practice by touching each dot and counting. Here you can watch and example of Touch-Point Math on Youtube!
Our second math group worked on simple subtraction. Starting with a number, under 10, and talking about taking another number away. We demonstrated this math practice on our whiteboards. You can do both activities or just the one you think would be best for your child.
Today in Math we played war! Using a deck of cards or paper made cards, each student would randomly draw one card. Two students would then compare each card they had. Students would then decide who had the bigger number card. We did this to practice identifying numbers and which ones are bigger and smaller. Students can play this game at home for more practice!
Today, we worked on the subtraction worksheet. First, we counted all the objects for a problem and said the number. Then, students crossed out the objects after saying the number sentence 6-2 = ___. Finally, they counted the objects that were not crossed out to get the correct answer (6-2 = 4).
Today we played a dice game with our penguin sheets. We started the sheet by writing our name at the top and then coloring the key at the top in with the correct color. Then we used this online dice (click here for dice) to roll numbers. When we rolled a number, we colored the correct penguin in with the correct color. For example if we rolled a 2, we would find a penguin with the number two on his stomach and color is orange.
Today we did Grocery Cart math! We used our puff balls to fill up the cart and then add/take away more. You can practice this with your child by showing them a number and then having them add that many puffs to their cart. Then show them a new number and have them add that in before counting all of them together!
Today we pretended we had cavities on our teeth because we ate too much sugar! We used our dry erase boards to make a mouth with teeth. We then showed students a number and they had to color in that many teeth with cavities. We then told them that the dentist "fixed" a few of our cavities and they erased that many to practice subtraction. For example, we told them they got 4 cavities and to color in 4 teeth. Then we said the dentist fixed two cavities and to erase two of the cavities. Then we asked how many cavities were left. We did this a few times.
Today we completed our bunny missing number sheet. We had students read the number they saw and then tell us what number was missing. They then wrote that number in the box. We did this for the whole sheet.
Today we used small items to count and feed some farm animals. We told students a number to write on their animal trough and then had them count that many items to feed to that animal. We did this for the whole packet.
Today we used our giant heart and heart candies to do addition problems. We told students to put a certain number of hearts on one side, then a certain number on the other side. Then they counted how many candies there were all together. We did this several times. We then ate the candy hearts!
Today we did Valentine's Shape worksheet. We talked about the characteristics of each shape and then colored them inside the heart box. We counted how many of each we found too. Please complete this at home with your child!
Today we completed our big and small sheets. We practiced following directions such as, "Color the big fish blue. Put a triangle around the small dinosaur." We did this for both sides of the sheet. You can choose different shapes, sizes, and colors when you give directions for your child to finish it!
Today we did addition problems with farm animals. We used out dry erase boards and counting bears to do this. After looking at the picture on the left, we wrote how many animals we saw on 1 side of the plus sign and how many animals we saw on the other side of the plus line and used counting bears to show this and pretended they were the animals. We then counted how many bears there were all together and wrote this down. We did this for all the problems.
Today we counted farm animals with our farm animal sheet. We looked at the number next to the row of animals and colored in that many animals. We did some together and then allowed children to do the end on their own.
Today we made "pizza's" with mickey on our dry erase board. For this we drew a circle and students were asked to draw a certain number of each ingredient on the pizza and then count how many ingredients there were all together on the pizza and write that number. For example, we told them put 4 pepperonis on, they drew that, then we said put 3 pineapples on, they drew that, and then we asked them to count how many ingredients in all. They counted all the ingredients and then wrote that number somewhere on the white board. We did this a few times. You can then have fun and have them make their own pizza at the end and count the ingredients.
Today for math we used a pipe cleaner and beads to do addition problems. We told students a number and they counted that many beads on one side of the pipe cleaner. Then we told them a number and they counted that many beads on the other side. Then we pushed them together and counted how many there were all together. We did this at least 3 times. Then we made it into the shape of a heart.
Today we practiced more addition problems. We got our our bear addition sheet, a pencil, and counting bears. On the sheet we wrote a number in one box, counted that many bears, wrote a number in the next box, and then counted that many bears, and then counted wrote how many bears there were "all together" after the equals sign. We tried to keep the numbers below 10 that we chose.
Today we did more "addition" word problems, but this time using family. We watched a google slide-we talked about how there were a few people in the house or on the playground, and then more joined in. We asked how many family members were there all together in the second picture of the scene. Students were asked to count the members and then write how many there were all together on the white board. To view the google slides for these word problems, click the picture on the left.
Today we practiced "counting on/addition word problems with community helpers. We told students word stories using a slide presentation. For example a teacher goes into her room and 5 kids join her-how many people are there all together in the classroom now? We then had children write the number they counted on the dry erase board. You can click on the picture on the left to view the power point and work through the problems with your child. Another challenge could be to have the identify the community helpers in each problem by name :).
Today we counted and graphed community helper icons. We talked about each icon, what they are used for and who uses them. Then we counted and colored them before we graphed them. After each icon had been graphed, we talked about what we had the most of and what we had the least of. You can complete this same activity at home with your student.
Today we wrote the numbers in order on our fire truck sheets in the boxes at the bottom from 1-10. We then cut this into strips and made it into a puzzle. Students were then challenged to put the fire truck back together by laying the strips in the correct order. This is a fun puzzle they can reuse!
Today, for Math we worked on connecting dots to make a Police officer hat. Before starting the activity, students took turns counting from 1-30. While connecting the dots, students were asked to say the numbers till they finished drawing the hat. After we connected all the number dots, we colored the picture.
For math today, we completed our star number ordering sheet. First students cut out all the numbers at the bottom. Then we started counting to find what numbers were missing. Students then glued the correct number in that spot. We then continue to "count on" from that number. This means we didn't start counting at 1 again, we counted from the number we glued on to see what number cam next. For example if we glued down 3, we counted 3, 4, and then 5. They can color this in if they want to.
For math today, we made a snowflake out of different shapes. Students got out their shapes from their envelope in their supply bag and glued them in whatever design they wanted to. As they glued them, we challenged them to identify the shape. After they were finished gluing all the shapes they wanted, we asked them to count how many of each shape they used and write that number next to the shape at the bottom.
Today we played a snowflake counting game. To play this at home, you can draw snowflakes on a dry erase board. Have your child count them, and then write that number on the dry erase board. You can do this with any numbers from 1-20! Try to do at least 8 different numbers!
Today, for Math homework trace the number 3 and practice writing the number 3. Children can count and color the three small circles by the big number 3. Children can practice writing the number 3 on the jar for more practice. Please, take the picture of the completed math worksheet and send it to Mrs. Marion or Ms. Stacy.
Today we cut out our hat that we made. We then showed students a number and a shape on our dry erase board. They then had to draw that many of the shape on their hat. We then asked students to turn in a picture of this for homework. You can use my hat as an example of what shapes and how many to draw.
Today we put a certain amount of objects on the table. We asked students to count the objects and then write that number on their dry erase board. For example, I put 6 strawberries on the table, asked the student to count them, and then write that number. We then counted them together to see if they were correct. This helped us to see if they could count and write the correct numeral.
Today we did our Hat Graph worksheet! We counted how many of each shape we have and then graphed our results. We talked about what shape we had the most of and which shape we have the least of. You can do this at home with your students!
Today for Math we completed the Silly Snowman Math worksheet. First we counted the snowballs in each snowman. Once students count, they should cut and paste the matching numbers. The dotted lines are there to help students count, squares do not have to be cut perfect. Try your best!
Today for math we drew certain numbers of winter pictures. Miss Stacy drew a number (1-9) and then we drew that many winter items, for example 3 mittens and 6 snowflakes. You can do this at home with your student by giving them a number and a winter item to draw. We also continued to practice counting to 20, making sure we counted slowly and carefully to not miss any numbers!
Today for math we used our laminated mug worksheet, dry erase marker, and marshmallows. The teacher said the number and students wrote that number on the worksheet and counted the same number of marshmallows to put on the mug worksheet. We counted from 1-10. Children can be challenged using more than 10.
Today for math we used our dry erase board, dry erase marker, and something small like counting bears, cheerios, beans etc. to count. The students said a number and wrote that number. They then counted out that many objects. We did this with several numbers. We only did numbers from 1-20.
Today in math we played a counting game with snowman buttons. We had a presentation, but unfortunately can't share it. So to play at home you could do it two ways. You can start by drawing a snowman. Draw on a certain number of buttons, have your child count the buttons and then write the correct number. OR you could draw the snowman, and tell your child to draw a certain amount of buttons and then write that number. Have fun with it!
Today we wrote a number on the dry erase board and tried to count that many objects. You can do this for as many numbers as you want!
Today we wrote a number on the dry erase board and asked students what number we wrote. We then came up with an exercise or movement to do and as we did the exercise, we counted to that number. For example, we wrote 14, they said it was the number 14, then we did squats 14 times and counted as we did it.
Today we did winter movements a certain amount of times as well as a counting gumdrops game. You can click on the picture on the left to see what movements to do and how many times, as well as to view how many gumdrops to count out. You will use the arrow buttons to go to the next slide in the presentation.
Today we used our pipe cleaner and bag of red beads to make a candy cane. We showed students different numbers and then they counted that many beads on. For example we showed them the number 8, then they counted 8 beads on the pipe cleaner. Then we took the beads off and showed them a different number and they counted that amount. We did a few times. When we ended, we put all the beads on and counted how many there were. We then twisted a bead on each end of the pipe cleaner to make sure the beads didn't fall off and bent it into the shape of a candy cane. You can use this as a decoration in your home on a door handle, cabinet, or your tree if you have one.
Today we used our moon and star Ramadan counting sheet to count objects in order. We used dry food such as cheerios, beans, goldfish, or corn kernels to count these objects in order. For example, we said one, found the number one and put a cheerio on it, then we said what comes next? 2! We found 2 and put a cheerio on it. You can do this with your child till all the circles are filled up and counted. Make sure to have them count at the end how many are all together! They should have 16.
After listening to the story, "Count the Days of Hanukkah," we counted and drew some of the important traditions from the holiday. We drew 1 menorah, 2 dreidels, 3 latkes (potato pancakes), 4 gelt (chocolate coins), and 5 presents! After you do this with your student please send a photo of it to Miss Stacy or Mrs Marion!
Today we colored a rangoli by number. We used the key to color the correct numbers in the correct spots. If we saw a 1 we colored it red, 2-green, 3-blue, 4-orange, 5-yellow, 6,-purple. We learned that this goes with the celebration of Diwali to bring good luck.
Today we wrote the numbers in sequence or in order on our gingerbread man game board. We then used our gingerbread cookie or game piece to find different numbers to get away from the fox. For example, the teacher would show the number 5 on the dry erase board and then the cookie or game piece would have to "run" to that spot. The child was asked to identify the numbers they were running to.
Today we counted lights and ginngerbread people and sequenced the numbers as we counted them. (wrote the numbers in order) . You can draw lights on a dry erase board and have your child count them and try to write the numbers under them.
Today we used sequencing words (first, next, then, and last) to build a snowman! We did it interactively online, but at home you could direct your child in drawing a snowman on a white piece of paper. Give your child directions like, "first draw a big circle and then a smaller circle on top!" After they draw give another set of two directions like, "now add 2 eyes and then one crescent for a smile." You can add colors directions and shapes too the snowman to bring in lots of concepts!
Today using a worksheet with missing numbers, students called out the numbers missing on the worksheet. Students were asked to count from 1 as we filled the missing numbers up to 20.
Today we talked about how numbers have a sequence or order to them. We cut the tiger into strips and then glued those strips in correct number order on our blank number paper. We counted to ten as we went :)
Today we played Run,Run! Students identified number rolled on the dice, while counting the numbers they moved that many spaces.
Today we completed our gingerbread graphing page. We used a different color crayon to circle each requested object and counted them as we did this. We then charted this on the bottom of the page. At the end we talked about which one had the most and least!
Today we played Roll and Count. Students identified the number on the dice, wrote the number using their Expo marker and placed the same number of buttons on the Gingerbread Girl Template.
Today we went through the positional words (on, in, beside, front, between, below, above, and inside) in the book and glued the Gingerbread man in the right spot.
Today we used our blank gingerbread template to make a gingerbread man. We talked about what types of things a gingerbread man might need-eyes, nose, mouth, buttons, mittens, and boots. We then talked about different shapes these things could be and drew them. You can have your child do the same thing and talk about the shapes as well.
Today we used our 5 Little Turkeys book to countdown from 5. Before we turned the page, we had to guess how many turkeys would be left if one was taken away. After our guess, we counted how many turkeys were left on the next page. We did this till the end of the book. We then let students color the book if they wanted for fun!
Today we worked to write the numbers in order to count how many feathers were on the turkey. Students started by writing 1, and then told the teacher what number comes next, and then would write it. If they aren't sure of how the number looks, you can show them how to write it on the dry erase board, and then challenge them to write it on the feather. They can color the feathers for fun if they want.
Today we graphed everyone's favorite story of the three animals we read about. To do this activity at home, you can have your child make 2 lines to make 3 columns on a dry erase board. Then have them draw a pig in one column, a goat in another column, and a bear in another column. You can then have them make a dot in the animal story they liked the most. Then you can use this graph for reference and tell them how their classmates voted and have them then talk about which animal has the most and which one has the least.
Today students used their corn counting sheets and corn kernels to count different numbers. Teachers showed a number between 1-20 and had students count that many kernels. If you don't have number cards, you can write a number on their dry erase board and then have them count that many.
Today students worked to identify numbers on their watermelon counting sheet and connect this to the correct watermelon that had the corresponding seeds. We did the left side of the worksheet together and the children were asked to complete the right side on their own.
Today we worked on our number book. Students were asked to write a number on each page and then draw that amount of items. They did this for numbers 1-10. You can look to the picture for examples of different things to draw.
Today we did our Find and Count fruit worksheet! We colored each fruit and different color and then counted the amount of each fruit. Have your child practice counting and then writing the number!
Today for math we focused on counting and number identification! Right now, we want families to work on students being able to count to 10 consistently, if they can already do this, work on counting to 20. Make sure when you work with your student to encourage them to go slow and say each number. To help connect the written number and the value, you can play simple games such as showing a child a number and then challenging them to find something of that value. For example, if you showed them a number 3, have them go find 3 spoons! Once your child collects items you can have them count them too!
Today students completed the vegetable pattern sheet. Students and teachers said the names of the vegetable in the line and then circled the vegetable that came next. This worksheet helped us learn some new vegetable names!
Today students were asked to complete patterns with fruit. The teacher started by having them say each fruit in the pattern line and then draw the one that would come next. You can start by doing them together and then challenge them to complete the last two on the back on their own!
Today we drew shapes to make patterns. Students were asked to continue patterns that the teacher started with shapes. You can use the picture on the left to get your child started with patterns and then challenge them to create some patterns on their own!
Today we continued talking about patterns. We used a white piece of paper and markers to create patterns with colors. I started the pattern by telling them to draw a red circle, then green circle, red circle, then green circle. I then tried to see if students could continue the pattern on their own. We did one pattern where we used three colors as a challenge.
Today we talked about patterns, which are things that happen over and over again in the same way. Then we did body motion patterns, like pat your head then clap your hands, pat your head then clap your hands, and so on! We did several patterns that the teachers made up and then we asked students to create some for the teachers to follow.
For math today, we made a Jack-O-Lantern. Students cut out the pumpkin from their orange paper and identified if it was big or small. Then we talked about the shapes we used to make their face. At the end, students were asked to count how many shapes they used. They were also encouraged to decorate more if they wanted to and to hang it up in their window as a decoration.
Today in math we measured items with the paper clips students were given. We started by measuring our dry erase board and dry erase marker and then found things around the house to measure. Students practiced writing the number of paper clips they used to measure the objects on the dry erase board.
Today in Math, students graphed leaves according to the color. If students are doing this at home, they can collect leaves and sort them by color and then mark them on their graphs. Be sure to count which categories have the most and which one has the least.
Today we played a guessing game with numbers. We hid a bee behind a tree. Students then had to guess what number tree they thought the bee was behind. They had to keep guessing until they found the bee. When they found the bee, we practiced writing the number of the tree the bee was behind on our white boards. To play this at home, you can get cups, a small object that would fit under the cup, and post it papers with numbers written on them to put by the cups. You can hide something under the cup and then have your child guess. They can then practice writing the number where the object was hidden under the cup.
"Which One is Different, Cross it Out Worksheet"
Today students learned how to identify same and different objects. Throughout this worksheet, students observed how some of the pictures were alike while one picture was different from the rest. Students were able to recognize different characteristics and share with the class. For homework, complete the worksheet and post picture to DOJO when finished.
Today students were asked to take straws and line tree and order the straws from biggest to smallest. These were both given to students during supply pick up. If you do not have these things, please call or DOJO us and let us know when you can pick this up. This builds on the skill we did on Friday of showing size order. You can have your child glue the straws down and decorate the tree if you wish as well.
Today we did a scavenger hunt for materials around our house. We then compared their sizes. We found a spoon, a crayon, a book, a counting bear, a chair, and one item of their choice. We compared two items at a time to see which one was bigger and which on was smaller. We then put them in order from biggest to smallest. You can use the picture on the left for reference. I didn't have a counting bear, so I used a toy bear :)
Today we talked about the words: wide, tall, thin and small. We read a poem and demonstrated those words with our bodies. Reach your hands out wide, toward the sky for tall, put your hands close together for thin, and pretend to hold something for small.
"This tree is wide, this tree is tall, this tree is thin, this tree is small. Beautiful trees I see with my eyes. But the one I like best, is exactly my size!"
After we read the poem, we drew trees that were wide, tall, thin, and small! You need to do this too and turn it in on Class Dojo. Remember, we want to see the student's work, parents can explain how to draw or show them an example on another paper but make sure you turn in the child's work!
Today we used crayons to measure items around the house. We placed the crayons along the side of a book, a shoe, and a picture frame to see how many crayons long they were. You could have your child make predictions, guessing how long the items will be and which item will be the longest and which will be the shortest. You can also measure more or different items than we did.
We also practiced counting to 20. We slowly counted and clapped for each number, then we counted to 20 again doing arm raises, and then again with leg lifts! Practicing counting is a great skill to have, going slowly and learning all the numbers in order!
Today we used our counting bears and an old egg carton to talk about more and less! We used our number flashcards to count one number at a time, then we drew another card from the pile and counted that number. After we had two numbers counted out we talked about more and less, which number was bigger and had more bears? We did this multiple times to get practice identifying numbers, counting, and learning more and less!
Today we counted and colored in leaves on our fall count and color worksheet. We asked children to collect 10 leaves. We told them the numbers on the worksheet and they counted that many leaves, then colored that many leaves on their worksheet. They then sent us a picture on DOJO of their work.
For this activity you will need you monster sheet, a dry erase marker, and the eraser for your dry erase board. We wrote down a number in the circle at the bottom of the sheet and then drew that many teeth. We also challenged students to draw the teeth in different shapes.
Today we completed the roll and count fire sheet together. Get a dice from a board game you have at home OR use your number line we gave you. You can roll the dice and then count how many dots there are. Then you can color in the corresponding fires. For example, if I rolled 3 dots, I would color in all the 3 fires. If you don't have a dice, use the number line and point to different numbers and see if your child can then color those numbers in.
Today students worked on the concept of big using their "Which one is Big? worksheet. First students wrote their name, then they circled which object was bigger in each box. At the end we colored the bigger object the right color as well.
Today, students used their shape tracers to trace and cut out a circle, square, and a triangle. They did this with colored construction paper. When they were done, they glued these shapes to make a house and then decorated the picture even more with crayons. They also wrote their name and parents were asked to take a picture of the house they made and send it on DOJO to teachers.
For today's math lesson we talked about the number of sides each shape has! We ran our finger around each side and counted them together. Then, we practiced tracing! We laid the shape down on paper and used our dominant hand to trace while our non-dominant hand to hold our shape still! Tracing can be hard, so if you child is struggling try to choose easy tracing shapes like circle and oval or square!
Today we drew shapes and then turned them into everyday items! Work with your child to draw shapes (square, rectangle, circle, triangle, octagon, crescent, oval, diamond) and then talk about what those shapes look like! Here is an example of Mrs. Bhatt's work! After you are done, make sure you turn it in on Class DOJO!
Click on the picture to watch our slide show on shapes and what daily items you might see of each shape!
Today we had a shape scavenger hunt around our house. Students found things that were circles, squares, rectangles, ovals, stars, an diamonds that were in their house. This goes with the independent work for the day as they will be asked to draw something of each of these shapes they found around the house.
Use your shape tracers and counting bears to see how many sides each shape has!
Use the shape mats (in the bag) and your play-dough to practice building the shapes!
Today we identified numbers on our apple tree worksheet and drew the correct amount of apples on the worksheet with a pencil. They then colored the apples and wrote their name on the worksheet. Parents were asked to send a picture of this worksheet on DOJO.
Today we did an experiment to see if items sink or float. You can recreate this experiment at home. You will need a bucket of water and different items that can get wet. Explain to your child that items that float stay on top of the water and items that sink go under the water and touch the bottom. Before putting items in the water, have your child guess or predict if the item will sink or float. Then put the item in the water and see if your child can accurately identify if the item sunk or floated. You can create a graph like we dd and draw a basic image on the paper of each item. At the end you can ask your child which side had more items: the side that sunk or floated?
Today we used our 10 apples up on top worksheet that children had in their packets this week. We worked to draw the correct amount of apples on each animals head. Students were then encouraged to color the apples in at the end. Parents can take a picture and post this in the messages on DOJO for the teachers.
Today we tasted red, yellow, and green apples. We talked about which ones were our favorites in the class and graphed this. After graphing our favorite apples, we talked about which color was the most and least popular. You could do this with apples in your house and your family or by looking at the picture on the left.
Today we counted beads or bears! We showed the students number cards one at a time, and then counted that many beads or bears! We talked about counting slowly, and touching one bead at a time when we count. This games is good practice for counting but also helping your student learn the numbers! When you are all done, you can turn your pipe cleaner with beads on it into a a bracelet!
Today we talked about the word "on". We want our students to know direction words because it makes understanding directions and describing things so much easier!
Turn this lesson into a game by having your child pick a special animal and tell them to put it "on" things - a table, a chair, their head, etc.! If this directional word is simple for your child, you could continue with more directional words such as; under, behind, in front of, or next to!
Today we talked about the importance of washing our hands! We sang a hand washing song: "Top and bottom, top and bottom, in between in between. Washing all around now, washing all around now. Now they're clean, now they're clean," (sung to tune of Frere Jacques). We also practiced counting to 20, because that is how long we need to wash our hands each time.
Then we did an experiment with dish soap, pepper, and water! Click on the picture to see the experiment and try it at home!
Today we used our number line, counting bears, and a die to practice identifying numbers and counting! To play this fun activity, roll the die and then count the number of bears that your roll. For example if you roll the die and get a 4, count out four bears, and place them on the number line! You can play this as many times as you want, helping your child learn the numbers and learn how to count.
Today we played a big and small game. To play this game, click on the picture on the left. It will take you to a power point. Play the video on the first slide by clicking the triangle. After watching the video, you can click to go to the next page and it will show you a picture. Ask your child if the thing in the picture is big or small? They can show this with their body by making big arms and stretching up for big OR crouching down and getting small for small. Do this with all the slides and then have them find big and small things around your house.
Students were asked to get their markers, a pencil, and a white piece of paper. They were asked to write or trace their names at the top and parents could write the date. The teacher then asked them questions about colors. For example, "What can we draw that is Red?" Students then gave answers such as a flower or an apple and then drew that. They did this for all colors we have covered except for white. See the picture to the left for ideas. Also parents were asked to take a picture on DOJO and send it to teachers.
Students did a household scavenger hunt. They were shown a number and asked if they knew what the number was. If they didn't know, the teacher would tell them. Then they were asked to find that many of an item they had in their household. For example, when show the number 1, they were told to find 1 picture, when show 2 they were asked to find 2 stuffed animals, when shown 3 they were asked to find 3 books, when shown 4 they were asked to find 4 markers, and when shown 5 they were asked to find 5 spoons.
Students used their color bears and sorted them by color. They then did a color scavenger hunt and found a red item and put it by their red bears, a blue item and put it by their blue bears, a purple item and put it by their purple bears, etc. This is helping them with the concept of sorting which is grouping items by a particular attribute.
