After the story, we divided into two groups for letter work. If your child has the letter Aa worksheet-we worked to complete that and specifically worked on the letter A sound and what starts with A. If you didn't have the letter A sheet, you got out a white paper and we worked on identifying the name for the letter A and things that started with A. As we identified things that start with A, we drew them. Your homework is to turn in your letter work. To listen to the story, click on the picture on the left.
Today we read the story, "Big Read Barn". As we read, we focused on the questions "Where". We asked where animals were throughout the story. This could relate to a position like next to the barn or in the field, etc. After this, we completed our where is the farm animal booklet by cutting out the animals on the last page and then gluing them in the correct spot. To read the story, click on the picture on the left.
Today we watched the story, "A Zillion Valentine's". After the story, we used our giant heart to make a valentine for someone special. We used our decorations and markers to decorate it. We also made sure to cut it out. To listen to the story, click on the picture on the left. To log into bookflix, the password and username is ecepeterson.
Today we read the "Hearts Mean Love" weekly reader as a class. Your child should have been given this, please read it with your child too. After you read it, talk to your child about who they love and how they can show that person love. Then, have your child draw a picture of this, who they love and what they do together! Encourage them to use lots of details and color. We want to see your child's work, please ave them do it on their own. After they draw and color it, the adult can ask what their work is and write whatever they say. After it is complete, please take a photo and send it to Class DOJO.
Today we read the story, "A day at Greenhill Farm" one more time. As we read, we focused on what we learned from this book over the past 3 days. After reading the story, we chose to draw about one thing we learned. For example, I learned that cows drink their mother's milk and say moo when they want their mom. I drew this, colored my picture with lots of colors, wrote what I learned, and tried to label my picture as well. This is the homework for the day. You can click on the picture to listen to the story.
Today we read the story, "A day on Greenhill Farm again". Today's question focus during the story was, "What do animals give us?" As we read the story, we tried to answer what a chicken, cow, pig, and sheep give us. Then we chose one animal to draw along with what they gave us. We made sure to use lots of colors and details as we drew this. When students were done, we asked them to tell their parent what the animal they drew gave us and to write it down. You can then send us a picture on DOJO of this. You can use the picture on the left to help you and you can click the picture to listen to the story.
Today we read the informational book, "A Day at Greenhill Farm". We practiced answering what questions while we read the story, specifically, "What did the animals eat." After reading the story, we got out the sheet with the farm animals and food. We then cut out all the food out at the bottom and tried to match the food to the correct animal by gluing it under that animal. We then took a picture and sent this to teachers on DOJO. To listen to the story, click on the picture on the left.
Today we read the story, "Clifford's First Valentine". As we read the story, we continued to ask who questions such as "Who is the valentine for? Who fell in the mail slot?". Then we played an ABC game. Students were show the picture on the left and had to pick a letter and write it on their white board and try to say the sound it makes. We then tried to think of animals that started with the letter. We revealed the animal underneath the letter after they made a guess. You can listen to this youtube video "Animal Alphabet" by clicking the song title before playing the game to help them in knowing animals that start with that letter. Also, to read the Clifford story, click on the picture on the left.
Today we read the story, "Franklin's Valentine". While reading the story, we asked who questions such as, "Who dropped their valentines? Who do you see in the classroom?" etc. After this, we got out our brown paper bag with our names on it and decorated both sides for our valentine bag. We DID NOT use the ziplock bag of hearts to decorate-these are materials for next week. You will put your child's 20 valentines with their name on them in this bag to bring tomorrow during supply pick up. To read the story, click on the picture on the left.
Today we read the story, "Best Best Friends". As we read the story, we asked students who questions. After this, we asked students, "Who is your friend?". We then asked them to get their heart sheet out and draw them on one side and their friend on the other. Then they could draw in details of what they like to do together such as cars, blocks, dolls, etc. They could then label one side with their name and the other wither their friend's name. After drawing and coloring it, they could then cut it out and turn it in for homework on DOJO. To read the story, you can click on the picture on the left.
Today we read the story "Love you Forever". We answered who questions throughout the story as we read. Who questions usually answer what person, animal, or creature did something the story. After this story, we then asked "Who is in your family?" and to draw and label them. We asked to include labels of which family member is which, to add details, and lots of colors. You can click on the story on the left to read the story to your child.
Today we read the story, "Clothesline Clues for Sports People Play." After the story, we asked students what different athletes need to play their sports. For example, a basketball pay has a basketball, a hoop, basketball shoes, and workout clothes. A soccer player has a net, soccer ball, cleats, and a soccer uniform.
After this, we then chose a community helper to draw about and try to identify what that community helper can do and has. We challenged students to draw a community helper they hadn't previously drew this week. You can use the picture on the left to help. We ask that after drawing the community helper, they tell you what the community helper can do and what they have for their job and to write what they say at the top-even if it is wrong. Make sure your child draws details in the background for this person's job (for example a construction worker may have a building in the background and a hammer and saw etc. A teacher may have a board in the background and books and pencils, etc.) Make sure to challenge them to use. enough colors-at least 4 colors for 4 year olds and at least 5 colors for 5 year olds. You can even challenge them to label the picture by seeing if they can identify the first letter of the word for different things they drew. All the work in the picture is what we asked for this week. Please make sure you are turning in all work for the week as this is how we assess your child each day.You can click on the picture on the left to read the story tp your child as well.
Today we read the story, Firefighters A-Z . You can click the underlined story title to listen to the story read aloud on Youtube. After you listen to the story, please have your student draw a picture of something they learned or remember from the story. Please encourage your child to add as many details as possible. We would love to see them drawing more than just one person and one object! If your child is 3 have them use 3 colors, if they are 4 use 4 colors, and so on. After they draw and color the picture, you can have them tell you what they drew and then write exactly what they said, even if it isn't correct. Then, send a photo to the teachers on Class Dojo, thank you!
An extra challenge for your child is to begin to label the photo with the first sound of each item drawn.
Today we read the story, "Clothesline Clues for Jobs People Do." As we read the story, we tried to figure out who had what tools to do their job before we turned the page. At the end of the story we worked on our community helper grid. We did the first 3 together and drew at least 1 tool that the community helper has in order to do their job. Your child can complete the last two on their own. Ask them what they drew and write it down in the box. Remember, even if your child draws the wrong thing, let them do it. We are assessing if they can match community helpers to tools they have for their jobs. We need to know if they are still mixed up on this. Click on the picture on the left to listen to the story.
Today we read the story, "Whose Hat is This?". While we read, students were challenged to identify which community helper wore each hat. At the end of the story, we asked them to identify what community helpers had int he story for their jobs? It was different hats! To listen to the story, click on the picture on the left. After this, we played a game where we had to match community helpers to tools they used. Unfortunately we cannot give access to this game, but you could instead tell them a community helper and ask what tools they might need for their job. For example: What would a teacher have for their job-pencils, books, crayons, etc. What would a firefighter have for their job- a hose, helmet, fire truck, etc.
Today we learned about more community helpers and what they "have" to do their jobs. When someone has something for their job it is either a tool or part of their uniform that they need for their job. For example, a doctor HAS scrubs, a stethoscope and a thermometer. A firefighter HAS a helmet, fire truck, and hose to do his job. We read the story, "Show me Community Helpers". After reading the story, we asked students what each community helper HAS to do their job. We read the main part about the helper and then used the picture to help us identify what they have for their job. You can read the story to your child by clicking on the picture on the left. After this, we drew what we wanted to be when we grew up and the things we would need to have to do our job. When your child draws their picture, make sure they draw it on their own. They should write their name, the date, use lots of colors, add details and can even be challenged to label the picture if they know letters and sounds. Lastly they should tell you what they want to be and what they need to have for their job-you can write this at the top. Please make sure this is the child's work. Also please make sure to have them add those details and color. We have noticed less details and colors in recent drawings.
Today we read about the community helper the police officer. We talked about what they CAN do after reading a story about them. For example, a police officer can help people, drive a police car, solve crimes, and arrest bad guys. After the story, we then colored our own police badge. We even wrote out name on the badge. As children wrote their names, they were encouraged to say each letter in their name. They then could trace the dotted line on the outside of the badge and cut the badge out on that line. Then you can take a picture and post on DOJO of their badge. They can then use it to play and pretend to be a police officer. To listen to the story "Police Officers on the Go", click on the picture on the left. You will need to log into the bookflix website. The username is ecepeterson and the password is ecepeterson. If it takes you to the general page-just search for the title of the book to find the right one. This website has many books you can read to your child. You are free to keep using the website to read more books!
Today we read about the community helper the dentist. We then talked about what they CAN do. For example, the dentist can clean our teeth, floss our teeth, fix a cavity, etc. After this, we used our teeth paper to write letters on the teeth. We then asked student to find and erase different letters on the teeth to see if they knew the letter. You can play this as often as you want. To listen to the story, click on the picture on the left.
Today we read a story about Doctors and talked about what they CAN do. We talked about how doctor's can take our temperature, help us feel better, give us medicine, etc. Afterwards we played a doctor vocabulary game-but because we can't put it here, you could just draw a picture of a doctor after the story and add details about what the doctor needs to do his job (stethoscope, thermometer, shot, etc.) as well as what a doctor's office looks like. To listen to the story, click on the picture on the right.
Today we learned about teachers and what they can do. Our focus these next two weeks are community helpers and the things they can do and the things they have. After this, we got a slip of paper out and drew something we can do all by ourselves. Students will continue this project throughout the week and make an I can do it jar as part of their independent work. We will share these jars on Friday. You can click on the picture to listen to the story and view the lesson.
Today we read the story, "The Biggest Snowball of All". This book talked a lot about sizes. As we read the story, we talked about sizes as well. When finished with the story, we asked students to identify the story as fiction or informational. We agreed the story was fiction because it was pretend-animals don't wear clothes or talk or build snowmen! After this we got out a white paper, drew a small circle, a medium circle, and a big circle. We then cut them out, wrote out names on each one, and put them in order from smallest to biggest. This was then the homework to take a picture of this. Click on the picture on the left to listen to the story.
Today we read the Winter Window Weekly reader. We talked about informational and fiction again by talking about what we can see out our own windows and what we wish we could see. After reading it we drew a picture of what we can see. Then for homework you will work with your student to draw what they want to see, something fake or fiction!
Today we read Here Comes Jack Frost. We discussed that this book was considered "fiction" because the characters were drawings. We also talked about how Jack Frost is not a "real person." After the story, students were to draw a picture of an activity they would like to do with Jack Frost. Some examples from the story are; sledding, ice skating and even building a snowman! Students should use multiple colors, and add details to their pictures!
Today we read the Arctic Giants weekly reader. We talked about what the word enormous meant and we talked about each of the animals and what made them different. We also talked about how they were all real animals, and that it was an informational story because we learned new things. For homework, please have your student draw a picture of what they learned/remember from the weekly reader after and send a photo on Class Dojo!
Today we read the story,"The Snow Bear". We talked if the story was Informational or Fiction (Story). During the read aloud, kids were asked, "If the animals can talk using the words?" This helped the students understand that the book was a fiction. Afterwards, we drew an animal from the story on the blue construction paper. We ripped small pieces of the white construction and glued all over the animal picture drawn on the blue construction. Parents can help children write the name of their animal. Don't forget to put our name and today's date!
Today we read the story, "Snowmen at Night." We talked about if the story was real or pretend. We came to the conclusion that it was pretend because snowman can't really move and do the things in the story. Afterwards, we drew a picture of what our snowman would do at night. Try to make sure they add details, extra colors, and even challenge them to label their picture (see if they know what letter the picture starts with). Then ask you child what they drew-challenge them to use a big sentence and say, “ My snowman is...” and then fill in what the snowman is doing. You can click on the picture on the left to listen to the story.
Read the weekly reader with your child.
Continue to read the weekly reader. See if your child can answer the question at the end of each picture. Then at the end ask if this weekly reader was real or pretend. Remind them that real is something that we could actually do or see and in books it often is photographs. Pretend is not real or couldn't happen in real life and is usually shown with drawings. Hopefully they will answer real! After this they can use their play dough to make a snowman. When they are done, take a picture and turn it in for homework.
Today we read the story, "The First Day of Winter." As we read the story, we thought about if this story was real or pretend. We thought about how animals don't really help us build snowmen and that this book was all drawings. We determined that it was pretend. We then drew our own snowmen and cut them out with parent help to turn in for homework on DOJO. We are also asking that you bring the snowman your child made to supply pick up on Friday to turn into us for our bulletin board.
Read the weekly reader to your child. Talk about how this is a real fox on the front cover.
See if your child can spot the differences on these mittens and tell you why.
Read this page to your child. Talk to them about how these are all real animals. Ask them which ones live above the snow and which ones live below the snow. After reading about the word hibernate, see if they can tell you what that word means. When you are finished ask if they think this book was a real or pretend book. Hopefully they will say real since it was real photographs and taught us about real animals.
Today we read the story, "The Mitten". We asked students to think if this story is real or pretend. When asking this question, we said, could these animals really fit into a small mitten? After the story, students were then asked to pick their favorite animal character and draw a mitten with them inside of it. Click on the picture to listen to the story.
Today we read the stories, "Christmas Time" and "The Night Before Christmas". After reading these stories, we made our gingerbread house and gingerbread people that were in our bags by using the stickers provided. We then ate our candy canes. You can click on the picture to listen to the story, "The Night Before Christmas."
Today the class read Llama llama Holiday Drama. After reading the story, the class talked about differernt Christmas traditions students celebrate. We also compared this holiday to the other holidays we learned about earlier this week. When we finished our discussion, we added a Christmas tree to holiday poster. To listen to the story, click on the picture.
Today we read the story, "Under the Ramadan Moon" and we talked about how people celebrate this holiday. After the story, we drew a moon and star on our symbols of holiday paper. We then had students share how this holiday is the same or similar to the other holidays we learned about and how it was different. To listen to the story, click on the picture.
Today we read the story, "Count the Days of Hanukkah" and we talked about the traditions of Hanukkah. After reading the story, we drew a menorah on our symbols of the holidays paper. We will continue to add more symbols this week as we continue to learn about more holidays. To listen to the story, click on the picture!
Today we read the story," Peppa's Diwali." We talked about how Diwali is celebrated. After reading the book we drew fireworks using a black marker and crayons on a paper divided into four parts. Each box will be used to draw each holiday symbol. This week we are reading about different holidays. We will draw symbols for each holiday and talk about what is common about all these holidays. Please do the "Divo" activity ( Instructions on the STEAM) and send the picture on ClassDojo.
Today we read the story, "A Hat for Minerva Louise." After we read the story, we tried to remember the order of things Minerva tried on- A hose for a scarf, gloves for shoes, a flower pot for a hat, a boot for a hat, and then mittens for a hat. Then we drew our own Minerva Louise chicken and chose something funny to make the hat with. Your child can come up with whatever they want for the hat and then send it to us on DOJO. You can listen to the story again by clicking on the picture on the left.
Today we read the story, "Merry Christmas Maisy!". After the story we sequenced the three main events from the story by drawing them and then retelling them. The three events we drew were a present for buying presents, a cookie or cake for baking, and a tree and balloon to represent the Christmas party. Your child can add details and colors if they wish. You can click on the picture to listen to the story again.
Today we read the story, "Christmas Cookie Day". As we read the book students answered telling what was the next step in the story as the characters were getting ready to bake the cookies. After reading the story, students drew "icon" for the main steps happening first, next and last in the story. Students used these icons to retell the steps in the story. Students can retell the story to parents, sibling, or an adult using the picture they drew in the class.
Today we began working on sequencing stories. This means we tried to retell the main events in order at the end of the story. As we read the story, "Rabbit's Pajama Party", we drew an "icon" to represent the main events from the story. We then used this to retell the story at the end! You can click on the picture on the left to listen to the story. As you listen, pause at the main events, and have them draw the icon for that. The order should be a door-draw after he lets his friends in, a pizza-draw after they eat the pizza, ice cream-draw after they eat ice cream, pajamas-draw after they get their pajamas on, sleeping bag-draw after they get into their sleeping bags, and a camera-draw after mom takes a picture. You can see the picture for the example.
Today we read the story, "The Gingerbread Bear". As we read, we tried to make sure students identified what was happening at the beginning, middle and end of the story. We also tried to compare it to the other gingerbread stories we read this week to see if it had the same or different ending. After this, we completed our Gingerbread chart for beginning, middle, and end. We did the beginning and middle parts together, and then the children were asked to complete the end part on their own and tell parents what they drew so parents could write this down. They can then turn this in on DOJO. You can click on the picture on the left to listen to the story again if you need to.
Today we read the story, "The Gingerbread Baby." While reading the story we made connections to other stories we have read this week. We also identified the bginning, middle and end of the story. After reafing the story, students were asked to complete the main character and setting worksheet. Parents, ask your child to explain their picture and write it down.
Today we read the story, "The Gingerbread Girl". While reading this story we took the time to compare it to the Gingerbread Boy story we read yesterday. We also made sure to identify the beginning, middle and end of the story. After we read the story students are to complete the craft activity. Students will cut out and decorate the Gingerbread Girl they were given in their pick up bag. Get creative and have fun! You can add and color anything to your picture!
Today we read the story, "The Gingerbread Boy." While reading, we want to remember how to identify the beginning, middle and end of the story. After reading the story we completed our letter worksheet. Students had to match the lower case letters with the upper case letters. We asked the children to turn in a picture of their completed worksheet on DOJO for homework. As review, please ask your child to retell the story in order to recognize the beginning, middle and end.
Today we read the story, "The Gingerbread Man". While reading, our focus was to identify what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. After the story, we used our blank book with flaps to draw what happened in the beginning (the gingerbread man popped out of the oven), middle (He ran around), and end of the story(he got eaten). We then asked children to turn in a picture of their completed book on DOJO for homework. You can click on the picture on the left to listen to the story.
Today we read the story, "Setting the Turkeys Free". It is about making turkeys by using your hand. After listening to the story, we then used our own hands and art supplies the teachers gave students to complete the activity. You can see an example of the hand turkeys we made on the left. You can listen to the story by clicking the picture.
Today we read our weekly reader. You can read the turkey weekly reader with your child. They can then color the back page by following the directions and then drawing a picture about the weekly reader. For example there is a turkey in here, so they could draw a turkey. They can also add details around the turkey like grass, the sun, flowers, etc. This can be turned in on DOJO.
Today students read the story, "The three Bears". After reading it, they worked to identify the characters and setting. You can click on the picture on the left to listen to the story. After doing this, students were asked out of the three books we read about 3 different animals, which one was their favorite,
The Three Pigs
The Three Goats
The Three Bears
Once they picked their favorite, they were asked to draw a picture of one of the animal characters from one of the books. They should save this picture for a graph activity tomorrow.
Today we read the story, "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" and we talked about characters and settings. We tried to identify some characters and a setting in the story. You can listen to the story by clicking the picture. After you listen, have your students draw a picture of the character and a setting and they can label who the character is and what setting is that they have drawn. Then turn it in to Class Dojo.
Today we read the story, "The Three Little Pigs" and we talked about characters and settings. We say that characters are who the story is about, people, animals, or creatures. The setting is where the story takes place, maybe on a beach or in a brick house or a grocery store! You can listen to the story by clicking the picture. After you listen, have your student draw a picture of their favorite house and a character from the story. Label what they say the setting and character are, then turn it in to Class Dojo.
Today we read the story, "So Much." As we read the story, students made connections. This means they were able to identify something the people in the story did that they have done. After the story, children were asked to make one connection to the story and draw about it. Some connections that students made were that they have played with cousins before, they have a family, or they have had a birthday party. Your child might have a different connection and that is ok. Remember to have them draw their own connection and tell you about it. You can then write down what they said their connection was. If you want, you can click on the picture to the left and listen to the story.
Today we read the story, "Feast for 10". While we listened to the story, we worked to make connections to the text. At the end of the story, we identified one connection we had and drew about this. Remember, connections are things they do in the story that we do. We decided that we all eat meals with our families, so that is what we drew about. The teacher challenged children to identify their connection after they finished drawing it and the parent wrote that on the paper. You can listen to the story by clicking the picture on the left.
Students listened to the story, "I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato". We tried to make connections to the story, meaning, we asked students to identify things that the kids in the story do that we do. For us, a lot of it was liking certain vegetables that the girl Lola ended up liking! You can click on the picture on the left to listen to the story.
After the story, we then tried different fruits or vegetables we had in our house. The teachers challenged the adults to buy a new fruit or vegetable the next time the went to the grocery store and to have students try it.
Today students practiced writing their names correctly first by tracing it, and then by writing it on their own. Teachers showed students how to step by step write the letters in their name using a dry erase board. They then challenged them to complete the rest of the lines on their own. Remember that only the first letter should be capitalized. Ms. Olivia then read the story "Lunch" and asked students to make connections to the story. For example, the mouse at a an apple and we have eaten an apple before-that is a connection. You can click on the picture on the left to listen to the story.
Today we read the story, "Eating the Alphabet, Fruits and Vegetables from A to Z." While the teacher read the story, children were asked to make "connections" meaning what in the story have they done that we have done. For connections to this story, we connected by identifying which fruits or vegetables we have tasted. After reading the story, we made a cornucopia. This is a horn shaped basket that holds fruits that we are thankful for. We asked students to name the fruits that go into the basket. Students had to cut out the cornucopia and all the fruits and then glue them on. To listen to the story, click on the picture on the left.
In the morning, we read the story "Sparky" and in the afternoon we will read the story "The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear". We continued to talk about the events of the story, you can ask your child what happened on each page and at the end ask them to tell you what they remember about the story. After you have listened to the stories (linked on the pictures) have your child draw a picture of an event. Make sure to it is your child who draws the picture and the adult who asks and writes what the child says the picture is about. When it is all done send it to Miss Stacy or Mrs Marion on ClassDojo!
Today we read the story "The Little Red Hen". We will continue to work on remembering "events" or things happened in the story and telling this to the teachers and parents, as well as trying to draw about one. After the story, we chose one event to draw about it. Students had to write their name on the top, and drew the event with details. We then asked students to tell their adult what the picture was about. The adult is supposed to write this on the paper. Please write only what they said. If it is one word, write that, if it is a whole sentence or more, write that. Thank you. Click on the picture to listen to the story.
Today we read the story "Owen". We are beginning to work on remembering "events" or things that happened in the story and telling this to teachers and parents as well as trying to draw about one. After the story, we chose one event to draw about. Students had to write their name at the top, and drew the event with details. We then asked students to tell their adult what the picture was about. The adult is supposed to write this on the paper. Please write only what they said. If it is one word, write that, if it is a whole sentence or more, write that. Thank you. You can click on the picture to listen tot he story.
Today for literacy, we read the story Big Pumpkin. We talked about what the characters tasted and smelled in the story at the end to help wrap up our 5 senses. After that we played halloween bingo. To play at home, you can call out something they have on their board and they can cover it with a bear. When they fill up the whole board, they can then eat their fruit snack! Click on the picture on the left to listen to the story.
Today we read the story, "The Little Old Lady who was not Afraid of Anything." We talked about the things she could hear in the story. After the story, we then drew something we could hear in the fall on their 5 senses book sheet. They were allowed to use the "Let's Explore Fall" sheet to do this. You can listen to the story by clicking the picture on the left.
Today we read the story, "Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf". We then talked about things we could feel in the book as well as things we could feel in fall. Students then drew the thing they told teachers they could touch in the fall on their 5 senses book sheet. They were allowed to use the "Let's Explore Fall" sheet to do this. You can listen to the story by clicking the picture on the left.
Today we read our pumpkin weekly reader. You can do this at home with your weekly reader. After that, we talked about things we could see in fall. We used our 5 senses worksheet and filled in the see box with something we see in the fall. We used our "let's explore fall" sheet below to help us. It is pictured below for your reference.
Today we read the weekly reader, "What Goes Crunch in Autumn?" as a class and talked about the 5 senses we could use! After you read this with your student have your child draw a picture of what they remember, maybe a picture of children drinking apple cider or a windy day! Then, we finished our 4 Seasons of Trees by using our tissue paper, pencil top, and glue! We crunched the tissue paper on the pencil and then glued it onto our tree!
Please be sure to send us a photo of your student's weekly reader drawing and the finished tree project! The teachers are so excited to see your student's work!
Today we read the story "Maple" by Lori Nichols. We talked about how the tree changes over time, from a small tree to older tree and we noticed all the changes a tree goes through in the different seasons. After the story we created our Spring tree. We used a crayon to make the trunk/bottom of the tree and then we used water colors to create flowers and buds on the top of the tree!
You can click on the picture to the right to hear the story read aloud!

Then, we used a stretched out cotton ball to make snow in the tree! Don't loose this paper because we will add to it each day!
Today we listened to the story, "Fruit Tree, Fruit Tree, What do you See?". As we read the story, we drew the fruits we saw on our blank tree sheet you picked up last week. Your child can do this as well. See if they can name the colors of the fruits as they color them. Click on the picture on the left to open the story and read it to your child.
Today we listened to the story. "A Grand Old Tree." We talked about how the tree changed throughout the book and what animals we saw in the tree. After the story, we used a leaf to do a leaf investigation with the worksheet parents picked up. We examined a leaf we collected from outside and drew it, colored it, and then continued to fill in more information on the sheet about our leaf. There is a picture to the left for reference. You can also click on the picture to listen to the story.

After your monster is done, adults can help their student fill out the bottom! Please send us pictures of the monster, the teachers are excited to see them!!
Today we talked about the letter H! We practiced making the "h" sound and we talked about things that start with the letter H! After, we read our Weekly Reader, "Do You Want to Be a Firefighter?" After we read the story we were sure to talk about the difference between us and firefighters. We cannot put out fires, because we don't have the gear or training! Please be sure to talk to your child about the danger of fire and ways to stay safe!
Today we read the book, "Pick a Circle Gather a Square" as a class. While we read the book we looked at the pictures and talked about what shapes we saw. Today we read the story The Shape of Things (click on the photo to hear it read aloud) While we read we turned it into a guessing game, guessing what each shape would be turned into! Then we used the shapes we cut out with Mrs. Marion (a square, circle, and triangle) and a glue stick to make house art! After we glued our shapes onto the paper, we added details, like a door and windows! When your child finishes, please sent a photo to Miss Stacy or Mrs. Marion on ClassDojo!
Students listened to the story, "The Day the Crayons Quit". We talked about colors we saw. After this, we took out our big names we had in black and used the water color paints to paint over the letters in our name and say each letter. Once it was dry, one of your independent work activities is to ct up paper into small pieces and glue it on your letter. You will then turn in a picture of this on DOJO.
Today we read our weekly reader, "Make a Happy Face" and we talked about the different emotions. When we talked about the emotions, we asked students what situations might make them feel that way. We also worked on making the emotions on our own face and then drawing them!
Student's listened to the story,"Chu's First Day of School." After listening to the story, students drew a school. We tried to talk about the shapes we needed to draw the school as we did it. We also talked about the Letter C and what sound it makes.
Today we drew and cut out an apple. Students were asked to get a white piece of paper. They then used a black marker to draw a circle for the apple and a rectangle on top for the stem. They could then pick a color to color their apple: red, yellow, or green. They worked to color the apple completely in and stay in the lines. They then had to work to cut the apple out.
We also practiced scissor safety and learned how to cut out straight lines and circles that we drew. To do this, get a piece of construction paper. Have your child use a black marker to draw a line down the paper. They can then cut on that straight line. After that, try to have them draw a circle and then cut the circle out. Try to instruct your child to hold the paper with one hand and the scissors with the other hand. See the picture above for correct scissor placement.
Click on the picture to the left to listen to the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?". You will need crayons and your brown bear coloring page for this activity. As the teacher reads the story, you can color the animals in using the correct color. When your child is finished, make sure to have them write or trace their name at the top. You can then send a picture of the completed page to the teachers in DOJO.
You will need the letter A worksheet from your child's packet they got. You will tell them the letter and have them repeat its name. They can then write or trace their name at the top of the paper, trace the big and little A's, and then find the A's in both the lines and in the letter poem.
We played a color guessing game. Your child will need their color and shape cut outs for the game. To play the game, click on the picture on the left. You will click on the slide to go to the next slide. Read the question on the slide such as "What is the color of a stop sign, a fire truck, and an apple?" After reading the question, see if they can find the color on the shape cut outs in front of them and hold it up. Once they have guessed, go to the next slide and see if they guessed right. Do this for all the slides!
Students learned the school rules: eyes are for watching, ears are for listening, voices are quiet, and bodies are calm.
After that, we made a family collage picture. We did this using a printed out picture of our families that we glued to a piece of construction paper. Then we used markers or crayons to decorate around the picture. A parent can help label the family members. Parents were asked to take a picture of the completed project and send it to teachers in DOJO.
Today we read the story, "I Love School," a book all about the fun things students learn and do in the classroom. Some of the things in book we can do from home, other things we have to wait until we get to be in the classroom.
