Identifying Bilingual Program Students
When students enroll into CPS for the first time the students’ guardian must complete a Home Language Survey. If the guardian indicates yes to at least one of the two questions below the student will take a Screener to determine the students’ English language proficiency.
(1) Is a language other than English spoken in your home?
(2) Does the student speak a language other than English?
Student placement into the bilingual program will depend on the results of the English Language Proficiency assessment. If the guardian answers no to both questions on the Home Language Survey then the student will not be required to take the English Language Proficiency assessment and will automatically be placed into a monolingual classroom.
CPS has provided guidelines for school's to use in order to identify bilingual program students during Remote Learning. Instead of students taking an English Language Proficiency assessment (Pre-IPT, WIDA-K, WIDA) there will be Parent and/or Student Interview that is conducted depending on the grade level and those results will guide the school in which program to place the student. Once in-person instruction begins all students who need to be screened for English Language Proficiency will be given the assessment to verify proper placement and EL status.
Once a student is identified as a candidate for the Dual Language Program the guardians will be contacted to sign the NIXON PARENT COMPACT.

Identificación de estudiantes del programa bilingüe
Cuando los estudiantes se inscriben en CPS por primera vez, el tutor del estudiante debe completar una encuesta sobre el idioma del hogar. Si el tutor indica que sí a lo menos una vez de las dos preguntas a continuación, el estudiante tomará una evaluación para determinar el dominio del idioma inglés del estudiante.

(2) ¿Habla el estudiante otro idioma además del inglés?
La ubicación del estudiante en el programa bilingüe dependerá de los resultados de la evaluación de dominio del idioma inglés. Si el tutor responde no a ambas preguntas en la encuesta sobre el idioma que se habla en el hogar, no se requerirá que el estudiante tome la evaluación de Dominio del idioma inglés y automáticamente se lo colocará en un salón de clases monolingüe.
Durante el aprendizaje remoto en lugar de que los estudiantes tomen una evaluación de dominio del idioma inglés (Pre-IPT, WIDA-K, WIDA), habrá una entrevista con los padres y / o el estudiante que se llevará a cabo según el nivel de grado y esos resultados guiarán a la escuela en qué programa colocar el estudiante. Una vez que comience la instrucción en persona, todos los estudiantes que necesiten ser evaluados para el dominio del idioma inglés recibirán la evaluación para verificar la ubicación adecuada.
Una vez que un estudiante sea identificado como candidato para el Programa de Lenguaje Dual, los tutores serán contactados para firmar el PACTO PARA PADRES DE NIXON.
