novel/textbook
Students will have an opportunnity to engage with multiple novels and texts over the course of the school year. While students will be provided with any novels read in class, it is highly recommended that students purchase their own copies. This allows for students to practice the reading skills (close reading and annotations) learned in class and engage with the texts on a more deeper level.
During each unit, multiple novels are assigned in order to provide more individualized supports and differentiation. Students are highly encouraged to read multiple novels per unit to deepen their understanding of the content, and to deepen their reading and critical thinking skills.
All selected novels have been carefully selected for each unit keeping in mind the educational value that the books have as it will be beneficial for students both academically and for social emotional learning. Students will be assigned a text based on a combination of their Instructional Reading Level (IRL), their current ELA grades, and performance on previous units. If you feel that the selected texts are not appropriate for your child, please contact me through e-mail and an alternative text will be provided.
Hi! My name is Ms. Reza and I will be your ELA teacher for the 2025-2026 school year! This is my fifth year at La Salle II Magnet School, and I am super excited to continue to grow with the La Salle II community! Previously, I taught for six years at Dayton Public Schools in Ohio. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in English from THE Ohio State University (Go Bucks!), my Master of Science in English Education from Syracuse University, and my Master of Education in Literacy from Wright State University. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. from University of Illinois-Chicago. When I am not in school, I spend my time traveling, playing video games, reading, or cuddling my dog, Lola!
Please feel free to reach me though email. We aim for a 48-hour business day response time for emails sent to school personnel. Our main priority is quality instruction for students and we do our best to respond as quickly as possible.
