Student-Led Inquiry Learning
7th grade English Language Arts will focus on inquiry-based learning, where students will read, research, and teach about various topics. Students will have the opportunity to read from a selection of books pertaining to their topics. At the end of the unit, students will use their knowledge to create and present multi-genre projects about their respective topics.
Our first central text of the year will be Ugly Me by J.E. Stamper.
Some kids fight battles no one sees. This is their story.
Randi is used to being invisible. At school, at home—everywhere. But when life becomes too much to bear, she has a choice: disappear completely or find a way to be seen.
Inspired by real students and real struggles, Ugly Me is a raw, powerful, and unforgettable journey inside the mind of a child who feels lost, broken, and unworthy of love. Through Randi's eyes, readers experience the heartbreaking reality of trauma, bullying, and self-doubt—but also the small moments of hope that can change everything.
Students will be focusing on realistic fiction as a genre. We will be practicing anlyzing the elements of fiction, more specifically on plot and character development.

by Jay Asher
by S.E. Hinton
Students will read one additional text independently. While not required to read all three, students are encouraged to read beyond the minimum reading in order to deepen their understanding of the content and practice skills.
