Greetings Students,
We know that this is an important year for you and that there have been many unforeseen challenges. Our goal is to support you to the end of the school year. Because situations are changing weekly, please continue to check the CPS and CMA websites, as well as your CPS email for updated information.
Keep in mind that all graduation requirements still need to be met including: required classes and credits, driver’s education, PL195, service learning projects, virtual classes, recovery classes, and Learn, Plan, Succeed. Click the image below for the full list of graduation requirements.
Learn.Plan.Succeed. is a high school graduation requirement intended to help guide students in reaching postsecondary success. Click HERE for a full list of details and requirements.
Learn.Plan.Succeed. recognizes six postsecondary pathways. With support from school counselors, college and career coaches, teachers, trusted peers and family, students can start to define career goals and develop postsecondary plans. Click the images below to obtain more information about each pathway: College, Employment, Military, Gap Year Programs, Job Training Programs and Apprenticeships.
Each student’s path is unique. Students at Chicago Public Schools use the free Naviance software tool to start to figure out their interests and to get some ideas about possible options for life beyond high school.
Beginning in sixth grade, CPS students start using Naviance to explore their interests and think about their futures. By starting conversations and exploration as early as possible, CPS prepares students to make decisions about their life after high school graduation.
Students continue using Naviance tools and resources throughout high school to support their postsecondary planning. Additionally, students upload evidence of their postsecondary plan into Naviance to fulfill the Learn.Plan.Succeed. graduation requirement. Click the icon below to log into your Naviance account.
Students must identify their Student Selectivity Rating, their College Selectivity Rating and their College Categories by completing the exercises on the College Match worksheet. There are instructions on the document that explains how to complete each step.
Students must use their college match categories and Barron's College Selector to identify their list of schools. Students are required to apply to 10 colleges: 4 Match, 3 Reach, and 3 Safety (at least one school should be out-of-state). These are steps for students in all grade levels.
The Illinois State Board of Education mandated a shift from ACT to SAT as the required 11th grade assessment beginning in the 2016-2017 school year. Additionally, CPS required all 9th and 10th graders to take the grade-appropriate PSAT assessment. Contact Mrs. Alderson at kpalderson@cps.edu for more information.
All students can practice using the following resources:
