Parents & Caregivers -- This is a quick activity I may do with your student at the start of a session to get a sense of how they are feeling and what interventions may be needed to help them stay in or move to the GREEN zone. However, please note that there are no "good" or "bad" zones. They are all simply a part of the human experience! Feel free to try this check-in at home. Sometimes your child may not be ready to provide an explanation for their emotion right away, but this will give a simple way for you to connect and know where they are at emotionally.
Green Zone - Continue to explore additional activities and tools you enjoy and remember that you are awesome!
Blue Zone - Ask for a hug, take a drink of water, go for a walk, eat a snack, draw a picture, think about things that make you happy
Yellow Zone - Take 3 deep breaths, count to 10 slowly, squeeze a stress ball, take a drink of water
Red Zone - Take 3 deep breaths, count to 10 slowly, take a break in another room, ask to go to a safe place, talk to a trusted adult about your struggle, squeeze a stress ball
Watch the movie Inside Out and process these discussion questions:
What emotion do you feel most often?
Have you ever gone through a big transition like Riley?
Why did the core memory change when sadness touched it?
What personality Islands do you have?
Need more questions? Check out where I found them here!
"Talk! Get that weight off your chest, have a good old rant and tell someone exactly how you're feeling." Quote by: Julia Laflin
