Partnerships

The inspiration for After School Matters arose more than two decades ago from the desire of then-Chicago First Lady Maggie Daley and former Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Lois Weisberg to develop cultural activities for the city’s teenagers. The program was popular and successful with teens who were eager to learn from caring adults who are experts in their field.

A therapist at Lake View will provide individual and/or group counseling, classroom education groups. The therapist will be stationed at Lake View for two-and-a-half days per week. Referrals to Alternatives come through the school's Care Team. Alternatives has been at Lake View for several years.

The Chicago Cubs serve as a neighborhood partner that has provided financial support for athletics, facilities, and technology. Additionally the Cubs Scholars Program offers our students financial contributions and a team-sponsored mentorship program designed to promote academic achievement and post-secondary educational advancement.

C4 is a new partner this school year. A therapist will be at Lake View one to two days a week to provide individual counseling services, family support (with evening hours off site), and possible group counseling.

DePaul provides after-school tutoring program, pre-service teachers for observation hours and student teaching

The Eric Family Health Center provides in-school medical and mental health services to students on an appointment and as-needed basis.

FOLV supports Lake View students and staff by designing and selling spirit wear, awarding grants to teachers for classroom activities, providing instruments to our music program and uniforms to our athletics programs, and hosting community-building events at and near Lake View High School.

JA supports students through programs in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, college and work readiness. Supports our Lunch & Learn program

iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower first-generation students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.

NextWaveSTEM provides multi-lesson STEM enrichment workshop series for our students, including courses on 3D printing, cybersecurity, drones, etc.

Northcenter Chamber of Commerce has initiated a mentoring program for girls which will result in internships and summer jobs, and provides grant support for teaching practices.

NU provides a full-time faculty member, to split between Mather HS and LVHS. His role is primarily to support the science department in their implementation of NGSS, but will also provide partnership opportunities across STEM disciplines at NU. Additionally, we will have NU Fellows who will provide after-school tutoring in science. Northwestern also provides us with student teachers.

One Goal prioritizes students who have potential and commitment to college, but who without intervention, would have extremely limited college prospects. Cohorts tend to have an average 2.7 GPA (or 80%) and a 840 SAT score when they begin. 97% of Fellows identify as people of color, while 93% are free/reduced lunch eligible.

Truman supports our dual enrollment program and provides us with facilities for various events.

A newer partnership that started in school year 2021-2022, Zebra plans to offer both onsite and off campus engagement opportunities to our students. With a primary focus on STEM instruction and opportunities, coaching, resume building, interviewing skills, and additional career support will be offered to all interested students.

HBHC provides mental health supports to our LGBTQIA+ teens.
