The Chicago Public Schools high school application process takes place in 8th grade and works a bit like college applications. While all students are guaranteed a seat at their neighborhood high school, students who wish to attend other high school programs must apply for a seat. Selection can be based on a lottery or point system depending on the high school program. Point-based selection is based on 7th grade final grades in reading, math, science, and social science, percentile on the CPS High School Admissions Exam, and possibly admission screenings.
Because the application process is so involved, it's very important for parents and students to research the process and their options early on. This information is taught during lessons beginning in 6th grade, but families should continue the conversation at home. The resources listed here are tools to help you with educating yourselves about the high school application process. If ever you have questions, feel free to reach out!

If you are a current CPS or charter student, you will update your new address with your current school. Your school will update your new address in Aspen, and the new address will sync with the GoCPS application.
If you are currently enrolled at a non-CPS school, please update the address directly in the application itself if the deadline has not passed. If the application deadline has passed, please contact OAE via phone or email to update your address.
If you change your address after the GoCPS application deadline, and your child accepts an offer where your address was a selection factor, you will be required to provide proof of both the address on the GoCPS application, and the new address, at the time of your child’s registration.
Students have to provide proof of address when they register for the school. If a student moved to a different address after they submitted their GoCPS application, they must provide proof of address for both the address on the GoCPS application and the new address. All offers are contingent upon this proof.
If you don’t have a Chicago address at the time you apply, your tier will be determined based on the median family income of the census tract in which you reside at when you submit your GoCPS application. If you live outside of the United States, your designated tier will be Tier 4. Learn about Tiers
