Through Studentreasures, I ordered and received our class book publishing kit. Like authors, we had a checklist to complete: (1) brainstorm story topics, (2) write a draft, (3) revise and edit, (4) publish the final draft, and (5) celebrate upon the arrival of our classbook! Each student completed one illustration page and one narrative page. My cooperating teacher and I completed the cover page, title page, one illustration page, and one narrative page. This book is a collection of stories about the adventures students’ plushies had throughout the school year as they helped students learn, laugh, offer comfort and support. Grateful for all the special moments we shared together in 2nd grade!
During College and Career Week, my cooperating teacher and I had the opportunity to share highlights of our Alma mater to our second graders. From "trolls under the bridge" to making blue demon "I want to go to college because.." pennant flags! We started the week with the winning door and our students received a treasure chest filled with prizes!
This was an exciting lesson to plan. Students collaborated with a partner to develop and design an effective method to protect the egg from a drop with provided materials. Students analyzed and applied their observations to complete an “egg-slip.” Students showed great excitement and engagement during the lesson and while they sang “The Humpty Dumpty Song” before every egg drop!
Due to the Pandemic of COVID-19, many students hadn’t experienced going on a school bus or attending a field trip overall. For a majority of the students going to Hollywood Blvd Cinema in Woodridge, IL to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie was their first field trip; a memorable one!
I gave the students the opportunity to draw something they learned from one of my lessons and/or something they liked of their interest. Students were eagerly using fabric markers to be the designers of my dress. The result was creatively phenomenal; from volcanoes to oranges to “I will miss you, Ms. Valencia!”
What a memorable day! A field trip to Brookfield Zoo as my last day of student-teaching was ideal. I got to experience another bus ride with the students and go on an adventure to find different animals throughout the zoo.
I gave students a thank you gift with great meaning and appreciation. “Thank you for making me a confident, competent, courageous teacher!” I emphasized the confident part as I connected it to the mini book, A Little Spot of Confidence, each student received from me.
My cooperating teacher and students presented me with wonderful thoughtful gifts, in particular a 2nd Grade class book of memories students created.
