Senior Year

Here is your road map to college. You have worked hard for three years to get to this place make sure you finish your high school career of strong.


Greetings Seniors,

Welcome to senior year. As you know a Post-Secondary Plan is now required for graduation. Student Post-Secondary Plans will be stored in an individual file in the College and Career Center Rm 270. A hard copy of student official transcripts along with a post-secondary plan checklist will be located in your individual folder.


September

  • Visit your school counselor. Create a Post-Secondary Plan, review academic status.
  • Create FAFSA ID
  • Complete FAFSA Checklist handout. Go See College & Career Center for Handout.
  • Naviance - Add three colleges to “Colleges I’m thinking about List.”
  • Research colleges and begin application process.
  • If applicable, link your Naviance account to Common application. Only if applying to common app schools only.
  • Start and finalize Personal Statements and resumes.
  • Through Naviance, request letters of recommendations from teachers and school counselors. Provide personal statements and resumes-email and hardcopy.
  • Identify colleges to add to FAFSA College list.


October

  • Complete FAFSA on October 1, 2017. Support will be provided in College and Career Center Rm 270.
  • Ensure all colleges you are applying to are listed on your FAFSA.
  • Ensure FAFSA Student Aid Report (SARs) are printed and filed in College & Career Center.
  • Complete College applications.
  • Be aware of all college application deadlines.
  • Naviance - Move Colleges from “I’m Thinking about” to “Colleges I’m applying to.”
  • Naviance - Check off transcript request box and indicate if you have submitted college applications.

SAT Retake- 10/17/2017, Deadline- 9/8/2017, Late Registration- 9/27/2017


November

  • Follow up with your school counselor to ensure all supporting documents have been submitted.
  • Research and apply to Scholarships.
  • If your SAR is flagged for verification please follow up with your Counselor or Ms. Acosta.

SAT Retake- 11/4/2017, Deadline- 10/5/2017, Late Registration- 10/25/2017


December

  • Ensure you meet college application deadline per senior contract.

SAT Retake- 12/2/2017, Deadline- 11/2/2017, Late Registration- 11/21/2017


January

  • Register for student orientation
  • Register for College Placement Exam and begin registering for college courses


February - March

  • College Acceptance Letters/Deferment Letters/Declined Letters – Upload college acceptance letters to Naviance and Submit a hardcopy to College and Career Center, RM 270. Copies will be made so you can keep the original.
  • Financial Aid Award Letters – Upload college award letters to Naviance. Submit a hard copy to College and Career Center. Copies will be made so you can keep the original.
  • Scholarships – Apply to scholarships and indicate on Naviance
  • Schedule an appointment with your counselor to review Financial Aid Award Letters

SAT Retake- 3/10/2018, Deadline- 2/9/2017, Late Registration- 2/28/2018


April

  • Financial Aid Award Letters – Upload to Naviance and submit a hard copy to the College and Career Center. Copies will be made so you can keep the original.
  • Scholarships – Apply to scholarships and indicate on Naviance
  • Schedule an appointment with your counselor to review Financial Aid Award Letters
  • Finalize College/University Enrollment/Decision.
  • Complete Post-Secondary Plan and submit to the College and Career Center.


May

  • National College Decision Day (May 1st)
  • Decision Day Celebration
  • Submit Letter of Intent and Tuition Deposit to Final College/University


June

  • Register for student orientation
  • Register for College Placement Exam and begin registering for college courses.
  • Attend Summer Melt. Upload class schedule and orientation documents to Naviance.

All hard copies stored in College & Career Center.
