Minds Matter Chicago, a national college access non-profit with chapters across the country, hired Von Steuben Metropolitan High School CTE IT students to revise its intranet (internal website). This was no small task! Seniors Camille Nono (Project Manager), Felomina Antolin, Lorena Ramirez, and Vinsline Voltaire, with the support of teacher Mr. Andres Hernandez, collaborated on both programming and new design. They met weekly to workshop the design and incorporate feedback from their client. Von students gained invaluable experience communicating with clients, listening to their needs, and translating the vision into a practical, usable website that will be used for years to come amongst members of Minds Matter Chicago. CTE students have the skills to gain employment and create real-world products. Thank you to CTE Health, Education, Law, and Personal Care (HELP) Cluster Manager Rhonda Bell for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our students to apply and showcase what they are learning in their CTE programs. Great work team! #CTEProud

Congratulations to Calvin Clark (@Sullivan) for being selected as Business Teacher of the Month for December 2020. Calvin consistently connects with BIT Cluster Team members to provide his students with engaging and valuable work-based learning and career and technical student organization (CTSO) experiences. We are SO proud of you!
Within the BIT Cluster, our partners become members of our family, as they provide essential Business and IT opportunities and supports that contribute to the success of our teachers and students. On November 18th, we were proud to honor the following four partners for their outstanding support: Certiport, Cengage, Important Little Games, and Junior Achievement. During the hour-long virtual event, words of appreciation from teachers and students were shared with partners. BIT students from Curie, South Shore, Von Steuben, and Whitney Young shared about the impact that their engagement with partners (through internship experiences) has contributed to their Business and IT interests, and solidified their academic and career pursuits in the disciplines. Each featured partner was presented with a certificate of appreciation, and given an opportunity to express their gratitude for being part of the family. It was truly a memorable event, and one we plan to continue quarterly – as we show some more ‘partner love’.

The training and support that Emily received in her CTE IT Web Development program from Mr. Andres Hernandez; her CS experience; Tech Crew participation and service; and earned certifications contributed to her success.
