The high school application process in CPS can be very confusing! The Canty Counseling Department is here to help! Please come to our High School Application Information Session on Tuesday, September 30 from 5:30-6:30pm in the Canty Multi Purpose Room, where we will review the application process and give you time to complete your application right there! In addition to the 8th grade parent night at Canty, there will be a series of live training sessions for families to become familiar with the fall admissions process run directly by CPS. If interested, families can attend any of the training sessions listed below by clicking THIS link to the GoCPS website.
Taft High School will host Open House presentations for current 8th grade students on the following dates in October from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM:

These Open House presentations will highlight Taft’s Academic and Extracurricular Program for students entering Grade 9 in the fall of 2026. Families are required to register for an Open House presentation through SignUpGenius by clicking on this Link. Please note there is a limit of 5 family members per session.
The Open House presentations will take place at the Taft Freshman Academy (4071 N Oak Park Ave, Chicago IL 60634). During the Open House presentations, families will receive an overview of the following information:

After the Open House presentation, we will offer self-guided tours of the Taft Freshman Academy.
Families will enter Door 1 on the North Side of the school. Limited parking is available in the lot on the East side of the school. Street parking is also available to the north of the campus on Normandy Ave.
Von Steuben is hosting its Open House, on Saturday, October 18th, with 2 sessions for families to choose from. Registration is not required. This will be the only opportunity families will have to visit the building and meet our staff and students. Important note: Von Steuben will not be offering shadow days or school tours of any kind this year.
Von Steuben's application no longer requires an essay, or recommendation for those students applying to our Scholars Program. This program selection is now point-based, in descending order. The College Prep program now requires a combined 58% from the HSAT, (48% for students with IEP), tiered-based, and random lottery selection.

The Lincoln Park High School Open House is on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a drop-in event and families are encouraged to come at a time that is convenient for them. As in the past, there will be a principal welcome, an IB/ACP academic overview, Education in Action sessions, a Visual Arts Overview, a Performing Arts Overview and an Athletics Showcase. They will also have clubs and most of our athletic teams represented.

The high school admissions process can be challenging, and the HSPT exam often stands out as one of the more critical, and stressful, parts. Students applying to Catholic high schools in the

ND is proud to welcome another outstanding class in the Freshman group this year with over 215 new Notre Dame Dons starting this fall, as well as a good group of transfer students. NDCP is proud to remain the biggest all boys school in the state of Illinois. We offer four diverse academic tracks here for students, as well as 17+ sports, 35+ clubs, and many other wonderful ways to get involved.
The two best ways to explore ND are through our shadow days (www.nddons.org/shadow) and family tours (www.nddons.org/tour). 8th graders can shadow all fall long from September until December. 7th graders can shadow this spring in March/April.
The Entrance Exam at Notre Dame will be Saturday, December 6th with registration opening November 21st. We offer excellent testing scholarships and give financial aid and admissions priority to students who take the test here at Notre Dame.

The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund (DMSF) is accepting applications for current 8th graders who will be entering 9th grade in the 2026–2027 school year. DMSF offers high school scholarship assistance and ongoing educational support to Chicago-area students who demonstrate:

Applications are open and can be found at www.dmsf.org/aspiring-scholars. Families can create a login to save their progress and complete the application at their own pace. Once a student submits their portion of the application, recommendation requests will automatically be sent to their teachers and counselor or principal.
All completed applications are due by October 1, 2025.
