Rolls – a roll is the most basic and fundamental skill in gymnastics. Rolls are like flips in the fact that they are complete rotation of the body. Rotation for rolls are usually made on the ground. They are several types:
Forward roll - is one of the first moves that a beginner will learn in gymnastic. It is a building block for learning more advance skills.
How to do a forward roll - Starting from a standing position, crouched down and place hands shoulder width apart and face forward. Tuck chin into chest and place back of your head onto the floor, push off the floor with legs and rotate over your head onto your back, presses feet onto the floor and wipes the arms to stand up.
Backward roll - The backward roll is similar to the forward roll, but in reverse.
How to do a backward roll - starts in a standing position and bends to a sitting/squat position with arms in front, lower and lend back slightly until bottom reaches the floor. Continue the momentum and roll over your back onto your shoulders, place hands next to shoulders and tuck head into your chin. Hands then push the floor strongly and strengthen your arms to continue to rotate your body over your head, feet are then place on the floor and then you stand.
