Directions: Making Inferences from Images

Objectives:

• Given images related to the Deep Ocean theme of the escape room, students will make and list 3 inferences, achieving three out of three correct inferences.

• When working in a small group, students will collaborate and follow small group expectations requiring only two prompts or less to stay on task.

Directions:

• Begin by watching video #1 as a whole class. This will set the scene and give a sense of purpose to the escape room.

• Set up groups and assign students to roles, or allow them to choose their role in their team.

• In teams, students must access Google Classroom to find the slides assigned as "Step 1" or "Tutorial". The team should complete the tasks on slides 2-6, recording their inferences in their Quest Log.

• Teams should watch video #2 and then continue working on slides 7-14.

• The teacher will check students answers after completing slides 9, 11, and 13. 

• The teacher will provide a number code for each answer:

  • The secret code will be handed in an envelope labeled "Code 1" to keep the mystery. 

• When teams have completed the slides and obtained their 3-digit code, they should test their code by opening the next Google Slides titled "Are You Ready to Test Your Code?"

• Finally, students should watch video #3 and prepare to move on to step 2.
