Step 4 is recommended to be done on a separate day from steps 1-3. This task should take about 20 minutes for students to read each text and either annotate or make notes in their Quest Logs.
Given a short grade level appropriate text, students will make and list three inferences from fiction and non-fiction texts, achieving three out of three accurate inferences.
When working in a small group, students will collaborate and follow small group expectations requiring two prompts or less to stay on task.
In this final section, students work in collaboration with their teammates to make inferences about 3 different texts. They may choose which level of text they want to infer from.
The team should watch the first video below (video #8) before beginning.
The team should access a Google Form on the Google Classroom titled, "Step 4" or "Tales from and Old Sea Dog".
Students should use their Quest Log to record their ideas as they talk to their teammates. When each team comes to an agreement about an inference, they need to put their answer in the Google Form. The Form will give feedback to students as they respond to it.
Upon completion, teams should watch the second video below (video #9) and then move on to the "The End" to open the treasure box and receive their reward as a whole class.
