The firs design that I did was using Canva to make a flow chart for the IDT page to help give prospective students an idea of the steps to graduating. It took some time to get it done but it was a good experience. I did this for the CSUSB IDT program and working in collaboration with the head of the program (Dr. Baek) was a good experience on how to execute this flow chart to her liking. We also decided to make the overall chart the colors of the CSUSB school which is blue, white and grey. The decision also to go bullet point as opposed to numerical was a better decision for the finished product. Canva has become a very useful tool that has some many resources that one can develop nearly everything with. I have learned about this over time via the IDT program. One thing to do about creation is to not get too overwhelmed with the options you can use. So for this design I didn't really stress over fonts and size.
The next design that I created was an educational video on the Vietnam War from the point of view of the Vietnamese people and the lessons learned in the course. The video includes images and my voice as the narrated voice over for the information. The reason why I chose to do this topic is because when we think about the Vietnam war, do we rarely think about it from the perspective of the Vietnamese people. It was enjoyable doing the research and showing this unheard perspective more. I used iMovie to do the editing of the video because it is the software that I have direct access to and the one that I have the most familiarity with. For a video editing software that comes with Mac computers you can get a lot of things done. Another reason why i like this software is because although you can do a lot with it, the video editor isn't overwhelmed with too many options to choose from in order to execute the vision.
Another thing that I designed with the help of A.I. (Claude) was creating a website that was a Technology Assessment Test. I created this because I can see that technology is an ever growing field with many people curious about which is the best direction for them to take. With this assessment it will help give people some guidance on what technology space best fits their personality and interests. If you look online you won't find many if any assessment tests that are for people looking to expand their career or interest in the technology space. I did find one but it made you give your email to particpate and then after the fact you had to pay to get your results. Where this one that I created gives you like a basic entrance into the tech and the rest is up to the individual to dive deeper. This project was very fun for me to do, and I created it because I could personally relate to not knowing or being able to find some guidance on which route was the best for me to take. Using Claude really showed me the power of Artifical Intelligence and what you can do with prompting. I will definitiley be using AI in the future for tasks that may seem tedious that I could have it execute. Designing this did take time but it was a great learning experience.
For this project "Intro to PCOS" , again I used iMovie from MAC since it was the most accessible and ease of use for editing. In this project I used videos to assist in telling the story from free online sources such as pexels that gave really good quality videos. Actually the three ladies that you see in the thumbnail are from the free online source. I used images such as video and pictures to help keep the attention of the audience as the information is being explained to them. I also used my own voice to create the voice over for the video. This topic seems like a strange topic for a man to choose, but I chose it because I am a big fan of health and this topic of PCOS kept on popping up around me. I also realized that not many people knew what it was, so I wanted to share the basic information of what PCOS is and who it primarily effects. This project was an enjoyable one. Again I like health and to be able to make an informative video for people who may not have known or heard about PCOS was great to help them get an introduction to what it is.
I learned a lot doing all of this technology. Especially through the use of A.I. I was actually quite impressed with what other people created with AI and LLMs like ChatGPT. The future of AI is going to be very interesting. I also became a more advid user of Canva. At first I didn't realize how useful and versatile Canva is, but now I do and use it as a tool in my tool box for creating and designing nearly anything that comes to mind. I recently created a simple book cover with Canva. Another cool thing that I like about Canva is how user friendly it is with it's templates and tools. In the video production/podcast class I really enjoyed seeing the tools to use in regards to education such as that of the hand that draws images while someone is talking or creating avatars and environments that a lot of businesses use to train/teach/educate their employees. When I get the opportunity to use those tools I definitely will be implementing those as well because they are so useful.
