John Fury, with an impressive 18-year tenure in public safety, serves as the owner and lead instructor at Fury Training Concepts LLC. His journey began in 2005 as a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department in Alleghany County, VA. Over the years, John ascended through roles such as Instructor and Lieutenant, showcasing his leadership prowess and commitment to continuous learning within the department.
Simultaneously, John explored his love for the outdoors by working as a seasonal Interpreter at Douthat State Park. This dual commitment exemplified his versatility, seamlessly blending emergency response with environmental education and park management.
In 2012, John transitioned briefly to the Clifton Forge Police Department, gaining valuable insights into law enforcement and comprehensive safety practices. However, his connection to the State Park system remained strong, leading him back as the Chief Ranger at Westmoreland State Park. Rapid promotions followed, with John becoming Assistant Park Manager at James River State Park and Park Manager in 2022. His roles within the State Park system included serving as a Law Enforcement Field Training Officer, Wilderness First Aid Instructor, and Search Team Member for the DCR SAR Team.
John's contributions to public safety extended beyond his primary roles. He collaborated with the Buckingham County Department of Emergency Services, showcasing a commitment to community safety and well-being. Additionally, as an Operational Tracker with the Search and Rescue Tracking Institute (SARTI), John leveraged specialized skills to enhance search and rescue operations.
