The 8th grade Total School in the Smokies trip is usually the first week of May. The objective of this program is to instill an awareness and concern for our environment and to appreciate and use wisely what we have inherited. While at Camp Wesley Woods in Townsend, TN, the students experience on-site instruction and activities involving science, language arts, math, social studies, and art. At the same time, students work together to solve problems, develop communication skills; build trust and self-confidence, while expanding their individual comfort zone. Not to be overlooked is the social experience. Students live together following dormitory and eco-rules for group living, and watch out for and help each other in whatever activity they may be participating.
The program scope includes music, art, Seton watch, dealing with fear, geology, astronomy, local history, pioneer life, wildlife ecology, forest ecology, creative writing, poetry, mountain climbing, orienteering, rappelling, canoeing/kayaking, ropes challenges, and spelunking.
