Weekly Updates

May 24, 2019

This week Ms. Petersen's class did a great job completing their Latin Unit. They learned more of the choreography and did an excellent job performing the dance. They enjoyed watching different Latin videos on Friday and playing dancing 4 corners. The students also enjoyed following an obstacle course with ribbons, hula hoops and basketballs. Not all of the students had a chance to complete the obstacle course, so hopefully they will get a chance to next week. Ms. Fuerst's class did a phenomenal job completing their hip hop unit. All of the students finished taping their dances. They even completed the Latin Unit and performed their Latin Dance. They were very excited to have their end of the year party and watch their videos that they recorded. It was fun to see their growth over the year.

This week Ms. Franke's class completed their latin unit by learning the complete Latin Dance. They did a nice job performing the dance for Ms. Piosson's class and recording the dance for their portfolio. Mr. Werhane's class did a great job learning more of the Latin dance as well. They also enjoyed learning the dances from Fortnite Season 9 as part of their warmup. They did an excellent job completing an obstacle course with ribbons and hula hoops.

May 10, 2019

This week Ms. Poisson's class was able to see a sneak peak of the high school musical Newsies. They really enjoyed sitting in on the rehearsal and watching the acting, singing and dancing. They will get to see the full performance next week. Ms. Poisson's class also reviewed their Latin choreograph from the Latin Unit. They then went to the high school Spanish class to show their dance. They did an excellent job performing their dance and an outstanding job teaching the high school students some of the dance moves. The high schoolers then taught our class how to say "hello, my name is..., I like...., nice to meet you." I was very proud of the class and they had so much fun! Ms. Kanda's class completed their hip hop unit. Each of the students completed their own choreography and performed their dances for each other. I am very proud of the students and their creativity in class. We then had a party to celebrate the completion of their hip hop unit.

This week Ms. Poisson's class did an amazing job completing the hip hop unit. All of the students completed and performed their hip hop dances they choreographed. They were very excited to have their party and watch the videos. They also began their Latin Unit this week and did a great job learning Latin steps and choreography. They enjoyed playing many different team building games at the end of class this week. Ms. Franke's class did an excellent job beginning the Latin Unit. They learned many different latin steps and some latin choreography. They enjoyed watching some videos of Latin dancers, both in large groups and in partner dancing. They also enjoyed completing a dance obstacle course this week. I am very proud of both classes.


April 26, 2019

This week Ms. Kanda's class and Ms. Fuerst's class join the rest of the elementary for 2 rehearsals for grandparents and special friends day. They did an excellent job remembering the choreography and song to "Sweet Home Chicago". I was very impressed with how much they remembered. They all did an excellent job performing Friday afternoon. Ms. Fuerst's class also finished their hip hop unit and performed their dances to one another. I am extremely proud of all of the students for working so hard and completing their unit. Ms. Kanda's class began working on their hip hop choreography. They did a great job using google classroom to complete their choreography. I am looking forward to seeing their choreography next time they have dance.

This week Mr. Werhane's class did a phenomenal job completing their hip hop unit. They all performed and watched one another complete their dances. They were very supportive and respectful of one another as they performed. They enjoyed having their hip hop party where they watched their dances and had some snacks. I am very proud of the confidence and self esteem they increased over the year. Ms. Petersen's class did a wonderful job beginning their new unit, Latin Dance. They enjoyed watching some Latin videos and learning the start of a Latin dance. They were great a learning the cha-cha and other latin steps this week.


April 12, 2019

This week Ms. Fuerst's class did a great job beginning their choreography for their hip hop unit. The students decided if they wanted to work independently or in a group. The students did a great job deciding the music and choreographing 10 steps, as well as incorporating hip hop elements into their dance. Some of the students were able to perform their dance in front of the class. The students were very respectful and enjoyed watching one another perform. The students who performed did an excellent job. They had great confidence and worked hard. Ms. Petersen's class did a phenomenal job completing their hip hop unit. They all performed for their classmates and respectfully watched one another. I was very proud of the students and and they were proud of themselves as well. They enjoyed watching their videos and eating some snacks.


April 5, 2019

It was great seeing Ms. Franke's class and Mr. Werhane's class after spring break. The students were excited to be back at school and discuss what they did over break. This week Ms. Franke's class completed their hip hop unit. They all choreographed and performed the hip hop dances they created. I was very impressed with how attentive all of the students were when their classmates were performing. On Friday the students had a party to celebrate their completion of the hip hop unit. We enjoyed some snacks and watched all of their dances videos from this year. Mr. Werhane's class was excited to begin their choreography this week. They decided if they wanted to work in a small group or individually. They all chose their music and choreographed 10 dance steps. They are looking forward to recording their dances and watching one another perform next time they have dance.

March 22, 2019

Ms. Poisson's class enjoyed leading the warm-ups again this week along with choreographing their own dances. All of the students decided to choreograph their own dances individually. They did a great job using the resource page on Google Classroom to help them get started. We were even able to choreography some of the dances this week. We will continue watching the rest of the dances next time they have dance. I am very proud of all of the students and their dedication to dance and their choreography. Ms. Kanda's class did a nice job continuing the Latin unit. They learned how to execute the Cha-Cha step and did an excellent job switching their weight quickly. They also learned a 3 step turn and a side cha-cha. I am very impressed with how quickly they were able to learn the choreography.

March 15, 2019

This week Ms. Poisson's class did a great job leading warmups. Each student took a turn choosing the music and leading the stretches for the class. The students then began their new unit, Latin Dance. They enjoyed watching videos of different latin dances and learning the history of Latin Dance. I was very impressed with how well they learned the intricate footwork and start of choreography for the Latin Dance. Ms. Franke's class really enjoyed watching some videos of the past when the students choreographed their own dances. They then began working individually or in groups to begin choreographing their own dances. They are looking forward to showing their dances to each other.

March 8, 2019

This week Ms. Fuerst's class did a phenomenal job completing new strengthening exercises with resistant bands. They worked their arms, legs and abdomen throughout the class and all stated, "We are feeling the burn!" However, they did not give up and kept pushing through the workouts. They then enjoyed beginning our new dance unit, Latin Dance. I was very impressed with how quickly the students learned the new choreography. Many parts were very intricate and sharp. Ms. Kanda's class enjoyed completing the Fortnite Dance Challenges. I think their favorite one was, Fortnite around the world. We were able to see people from China, USA, Ecuador and Mexico completing the Fortnite Challenges. The students then completed their signature dance step by sequencing 5 different moves and naming their step. They did a phenomenal job teaching their dance step and learning each others dance step. I am very proud of both groups.


March 1, 2019

This week Mr. Werhane's class enjoyed completing the Fortnite dance challenges. I was very impressed with how well all of the students knew the different dances. Mr. Werhane's class enjoyed beginning our new style of dance, Latin Dance. They learned the history of Latin dance, watched some videos and began learning new choreography. They will be completing their own hip hop choreography when they have dance in the afternoon. Ms. Peterson's class took turns leading their own warm-ups this week. Each student did an amazing job teaching their own warm-ups to the class. The students then worked individually or in groups to complete their own hip hop choreography. Each group completed their choreography and began performing their dances. They are looking forward to seeing the other dances and performing their dance next time they have dance.

This week Ms. Fuerst's class and Ms. Peterson's class enjoyed warming up to the Fortnite Dance challenge video and playing a team building/ balancing game with pool noodles. They were surprised with the workout evolved in the Fortnite dances. Both classes did a great job completing their signature dance step using their chromebooks. Each student sequenced a 5 step dance move, named it and taught the class their step. They enjoyed learning one another's dance step. Ms. Fuerst's class began working in groups or independently to begin choreographing their own dance.

This week Ms. Kanda's class began learning a latin dance. I was very impressed with how quickly they picked up the style of the dance and how they learned the intricate dance steps. They enjoyed warming up to the Fortnite Dance challenge video and playing a team building/ balancing game with pool noodles. Ms. Piosson's class did a great job completing their signature dance step using their chromebooks. Each student sequenced a 5 step dance move, named it and taught the class their step. They enjoyed learning one another's dance step.


February 1, 2019

I am so happy that everyone was safe during the winter weather this week. Ms. Piosson's class enjoyed completing partner warms ups, team building balancing games and a sequencing game. During the balancing game one student balanced on the noodles as the team members raced to add more noodles to the bridge he or she was walking across. During the sequencing game, the students stood in a circle and one student began a step, each student then added onto that step. At the end the students memorized the sequence of the steps and performed the dance. Ms. Franke's class began creating their individual dance step. They worked very hard sequencing 5 steps and are looking forward to showing their classmates their signature dance step.

January 25, 2019

This week Ms. Fuerst's class enjoyed completing partner warm-ups. They did an outstanding job showing dance moves, stretches and different exercises to each other and then switched partners. They worked very well with one another and had great social interactions. They also enjoyed playing a team building balancing game with one another. Ms. Kanda's class did a nice job taking turns leading warm-ups to the class. They enjoyed competing in Fortnite Night dance moves. This week they began creating a signature dance move. They came up with a move and sequenced it as a class. Next, they will begin sequencing their own dance step on their Chromebooks.

January 17, 2019

This week Mr. Werhane’s class enjoyed completing partner warm-ups. They did an outstanding job showing dance moves, stretches and different exercises to each other and then switched partners. They worked very well with one another and had great social interactions. They also enjoyed playing a team building balancing game with one another. Ms. Peterson’s class did a nice job taking turns leading warm-ups to the class. The students followed along and were respectful as the leader completed the exercises and stretches. This week they each created a signature dance move. They sequenced 5 steps with their Chromebooks and gave the step a name. When they finished they partnered up and taught their dance step. After, that they began teaching their dance step to the entire class. I am very proud of each student for creating a step and beginning to teach the step.


January 11, 2019

It was great to see the students after their winter break. They had huge smiles on their faces and seemed very refreshed. Ms. Peterson’s class enjoyed completing partner warm-ups. They did an outstanding job showing dance moves, stretches and different exercises to each other and then switched partners. They worked very well with one another and had great social interactions. They also enjoyed playing a team building balancing game. Ms. Fuerst’s class did a nice job taking turns leading warm-ups to the class. The students followed along and were respectful as the leader completed the exercises and stretches. This week they each created a signature dance move. They sequenced 5 steps with their chromebooks and gave the step a name. When they finished they partnered up and taught their dance step. After, that they began teaching the entire class their dance step. I am very proud of each student for creating a step and beginning to teach the step.


December 21, 2018

Mr. Werhane's class began creating their own dance step in google classroom. They sequenced 5 different moves and named their dance step. They all taught their dance step to a teacher and will teach their dance step to the class in the future. Ms. Kanda's class completed the mirror exercise where they copied each other's dance moves. They also began learning another hip hop routine.

November 2, 2018-December 11, 2018

The classes are continuing to collaborate with the music class. This will continue until the musical. The students have learned all of the dances for the musical!!! They have been cleaning their dance moves to make them stronger and in time with the music. They are also working singing while dancing, which is difficult especially with the upbeat songs. I am so excited for everyone to see the elementary showcase on December 11, 2018.


October 26, 2018

The students learned the choreography for the dance, "Down at the Twist and Shout" and "Don't Worry Be Happy". Ms. Kanda's class and Ms. Poisson's class were able to join the music class to collaborate and work on both the songs and dances for the upcoming musical. They did an excellent job reviewing "Dancing in the Street" as well as learning 2 new dances. I am very proud of the classes and the complex choreography they are memorizing.


October 19, 2018

The students began working on one of the dance, "Dancing in the Street", for the elementary showcase. Towards the end of the week they joined with the music class to help teach the choreography to the other students. Ms. Poisson's class and Ms. Franke's class did a great job being the leaders and teaching the choreography.

The students began choreographing their own group dance. As a group they decided on the music they would like and then began creating moves. They did a great job collaborating with their classmates and respectfully listened to one another.

The students in Ms. Peterson's and Ms. Furest's were able to complete a large section of the dance which included the bucket beats. They did an excellent job counting the beats and staying together when drumming. Then were counting by even and odd numbers. The knew to hit the floor on the odd numbers and hit their drumsticks on the even numbers. The students did a great job learning the dance sections and recorded the section for their portfolio.

August 31. 2018

This week Ms. Fuerst's class and Ms. Kanda's class began learning a hip hop dance. This dance incorporates partner work. The students did an amazing job remembering their numbers and the movement that correlates with their number. I was extremely impressed with their focus, coordination and timing. I am very excited to teach the next section which will included drumming with bucket beats.
