The Toaster - The Most Common Household Appliance
The toaster is used for toasting foods such as sliced bread, bagels, pop tarts, and more. In an automatic toaster, a single slice of bread is placed into a slot at the top of the toaster. A lever is pushed which causes the inside to heat up and toast the bread. As some like their toast lightly toasted and others like a crunch, there is a gage on the front of the toaster that allows one to set the cooking time. When the bread is finished toasting, the toast will pop up so it can be retrieved.
In pop-up toasters, there are two-slice appliances and four-slice appliances. The two-slice version is more popular and purchased more. The slots are made so different sizes of bread can easily be placed into them.
The original toasters were invented for bread, but in modern times, there are many other options that can be toasted such as English muffins, bagels, pop tarts, frozen waffles, and toaster strudel (to name a few).
