We are thrilled to share some fantastic news from the rowing circuit! This past weekend, Raghav travelled to Eton College to compete in the prestigious WinTech Junior Sculling Head. Competing in the J15 Quads category, Raghav and his crew faced a highly competitive field of 46 other teams from across the country. In a display of exceptional teamwork, stamina, and technical skill, the crew secured an impressive 8th place finish overall.
Placing in the top ten at a national-level race is a testament to the hard work and dedication these athletes put into their training. Please join us in congratulating Raghav on this stellar performance!
Another Positive Feedback Received
Dear Jo
"I just wanted to say thank you to the music teachers for organising the Cotham Open Mic Night yesterday.
We had such a wonderful evening, with a fantastic range of performances, from impressive solo artists and student bands to a truly magical father-and-daughter piece. The young drummer brought incredible energy, and the duos and solo female performers were all so talented."
Best wishes
Susanne
Monday 30 March 2026 is an INSET Day.
We would like to remind all parents and carers to turn off their engines while waiting for pick-up. Exhaust fumes pose a significant health risk to our students and local pedestrians.
If you arrive early, please park in a designated parking bay and take a 30-minute ticket from the meter rather than idling. This applies to all roads surrounding both the Primary and Secondary school sites. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting the City Council’s clean air initiative.
We are also excited to announce two mouthwatering upcoming theme days, with full menus available via the links below:
🍗 Rooster Chicken – Wednesday 1 April 2026
A chicken-lover’s dream! Enjoy a range of succulent seasoned chicken dishes and sides that are sure to delight.
🌮 Nacho: Flavours of Mexico – Monday 21 April 2026
A vibrant Mexican-inspired menu packed with bold spices, cheesy nachos, and all your favourite Tex-Mex flavours.
We can’t wait to welcome you to these delicious theme days, come hungry and ready to enjoy!

I had the privilege of attending the Year 7 Poetry by Heart competition as a judge.
This oracy competition involves students performing one or two poems, either individually or as part of a group. We begin with an in-school round, with winners progressing to the national competition.
A total of 17 students took part, and they were all absolutely fantastic—it was incredibly difficult to choose the winners. Well done to everyone who participated! Special congratulations to Matilda, Diya, Logan, Joseph, Oona, Rihanna and Abrar who were our winners.
Thank you to Ms Grice for organising the event.
Spring Quiz
36 students represented their tutor groups, the tension was high as they battled it out to see who would be crowned the winners of the Spring Quiz. Scores were close but a big well done to 7TE who won!
More News!
Next week we have our Easter Bake off and guess the number of easter eggs in the jar.
Year 7 end of year trip to Legoland will take place in July. More details to follow.
I have been overwhelmed by how many Cotham Shout Outs that Year 7 students have received. There have been over 500 Shout Outs from staff all saying how Year 7 make Cotham such a brilliant place.

Weekly Roundup
Just a reminder to all parents and carers that students need the following equipment in their pencil cases each day:
Pens, pencil, eraser, small ruler, calculator, sharpener, some coloured pencils and a highlighter pen. Students regularly need a glue stick to stick information sheets in their books. Each faculty only has a very small amount of glue sticks so it is helpful if students also have one of their own. Please continue to book slots for open evening, the booking system will be open until the end of play on Tuesday.
Congratulations to Linh Ngoc Khanh and Neve who were shortlisted for the National Young Poet Laureate Competition. Along with three others from Cotham they have been 'Highly Commended' for their entries. Well done!

We look forward to welcoming you all to school to meet your child's teachers on Wednesday 1 April.
Year 9 Go from Strength to Strength
Year 9 Pathways Options discussions took place last week and were really successful. Students had conversations with senior staff to discuss their options. Staff reported how mature the students were.
Raghav competed as part of a team at the national sculling championships and came an incredible 8th out of 46 teams. Massive well done to Raghav and his teammates!!!

Work Experience (WEX) Deadline - Thursday 2 April 2026
Just a heads up, as part of the Year 10 study programme at Cotham School, all students are expected to complete a week of work experience from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May 2026.
Students should have already secured a placement but if your child has not yet secured one, they must do so by no later than Thursday 2nd April 2026.
If your child has not secured a placement by Thursday 2 April 2026, they will be expected to attend school as normal during that week.

Year 10 Learning Coordinator
This week in Year 11
This week has been a positive and productive one for our Year 11 students. We have successfully completed tutor group photos for the yearbook, and we were very fortunate with the weather, allowing the student photographers to capture some brilliant images. Any students who missed their scheduled time will have another opportunity to take part after the upcoming holidays.
We have also successfully supported the launch of the DfE Education Record app, with Year 11 students now accessing and engaging with it. This is an important step in supporting students as they prepare for their next stages beyond Year 11.
A massive well done to all students who completed their Drama GCSE exam this week. It was fantastic to see the excitement, dedication, and preparation that went into their performances, an excellent achievement.
Finally, a reminder that Friday 27 March marks the first of two non-uniform days for Year 11. This is a great opportunity for students to contribute towards raising funds for their end-of-year prom celebration. We appreciate your continued support with this.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
Mr Arnold
Year 11 Learning Coordinator
Reminder: DfE Education Record App
Please find the attached letter which has been to Year 11 parents about the new DfE Education Record App. This is an exciting development which will allow students in Year 11 to access and share their education record (qualifications, results, school history and needs) with Post 16, Higher Education, Further Education and Careers/Apprenticeship Providers. FAQs and contact details are included in the letter.

Cotham - Where Charitable Giving Thrives!
We have raised £200 for Action Women from International Women's day. We also raised just under £70 for Islamic relief. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed. This week we had a great mixer event on Wednesday with lots of fun activities to give students a break from their studies. We also had some wonderful feedback from STRIDE, with many of our students praising their teachers and all support staff.
Well done everyone!
Work of the Week
Year 7 students have been creating artist research pages inspired by the work of Millie Marotta. Building on their previous learning about line and pattern through Zentangle mandalas, they explored how Marotta uses intricate line work and repeated patterns to create detailed images of animals and nature. Combining short pieces of research with their own drawings, the results show how students are developing their confidence with line and decorative pattern.
Career of the Week.....is BAKER!
Could this be a career for you?
Baking has risen to the challenge by proving to become a seriously cool hobby. But what if you kneed to turn your interest into something that will earn you a top crust?! (How many puns can you spot in the blurb?!)
Vet Vibes: Veterinary Taster Day
Veterinary Taster Day at the University of Bristol Veterinary School on Saturday 28 March 2026, running from 9.00am to 4.00pm at the Langford Campus.
This is a great opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds who are interested in animal care, veterinary science, veterinary nursing and related careers to explore the subject and meet staff and current students. They will gain insight into careers within the veterinary profession, as well as the wide range of support that is available for students who wish to progress into a veterinary degree at university.
This event is entirely free and designed to give eligible students a first-hand experience of veterinary study, with taster activities and insights into veterinary-related subjects and student life.
This event is primarily aimed at Years 10 and 11, but all ages are welcome to apply. More details on student eligibility criteria and how to sign-up can be found here.
Congratulations to Ayaan, Edie, Ezra and Sasha who graduated from the BEP Student Leadership program this week. They presented to staff and students from partnership schools at Clifton College this week and were just incredible, and a credit to our school.
Dance 4 Cancer this week saw students getting active to raise awareness and money for cancer research UK. Our Just Giving page remains active until next term so please donate what you can to support our students with this important cause.
WildEd Workshop
During our WildEd workshop this week, Mrs Ahmad and our Year 9 students went out onto the Grassy knoll and mapped the area by examining the wildlife and plants growing to gain an idea of what is already present, and what could be added to improve the biodiversity.
