"Thank you for taking the time to welcome us to NBP16 during the Open Morning this week. We walked away with a feeling that Cotham Post 16 is a very special place, with every student we saw (even those who didn't know we were watching!) showing such a great balance of happiness/fun and hard work/ambition. We really hope our daughter secures a place with you, as you are now very securely her first choice for A Level studies."
Many thanks

News!
Year 7 have returned after the October break full of enthusiasm and ready to go! They have already shown that they’ve grown in confidence and are back into good routines. I have really enjoyed hearing about all the fun activities the students got up to over the half term — lots of trick-or-treating and plenty of treats!
This term, we have lots to look forward to — including a Year 7 Bake Off and a Christmas Quiz. We will also be running another bake sale in support of the Guide Dog Puppy Appeal charity.
Year 7 Delicious Dishes
This week, four of our Year 7 classes rolled up their sleeves to make delicious Chicken Fajita Wraps!
It was exciting, as it was the first time students had prepared raw meat safely, while also brushing up on their knife skills and deepening their understanding of heat transfer through conduction.
The best part - everyone got to enjoy their freshly made wraps during the lesson! Lots of happy (and well-fed) students all around.
Family Consultation Day
We look forward to seeing you at the Year 7 Family Consultation Day next week, Thursday 13 November. If you haven’t already done so, please book your appointment as soon as possible.
Year 7 and 8 Trip to the Redgrave Theatre – A Christmas Carol
Thank you to everyone who has purchased a ticket! We are now sold out. Further information about the trip will be shared as we get closer to the date. We can’t wait for a festive and enjoyable experience!
News!
Year 8 students are learning about electricity and magnetism at the moment and the importance of using both in electromagnets for real life applications like motors.
Their homework this week has been on:
Comparing aerobic and anaerobic respiration
KS3, biology, materials cycles and energy
The function of the skeleton
KS3, biology, Structures and functions of living organisms
The effect of exercise on respiration
KS3, biology, materials cycles and energy
This is retrieval practice on one of the topics they were learning last term.
Shout Out
A big shout out to 10SR who had the highest completion rate for Sparx Maths homework last term. Well done!
Year 8 have made an excellent start to Term 2. It has been interesting talking to many of the students about their activities during half term. So many students loving being able to take it easy after the long 8 week term. A surprising number visited London to see the sights!
This week the students have been learning about why we wear red poppies in November. They learnt that we wear them to remember all the individuals who have died fighting for their country in war.
News!
Hello everybody, I want to give a brief update on what has been going on in Year 9 since the half term break.
I have returned to school following a period of poor health and look forward to taking the reigns from Mr Meakin who supported Year 9 so excellently during my absence. My thanks go to him for his amazing work.
Can I ask you to check in with your child about their lanyard. The lanyard is an important piece of our safeguarding apparatus and any ID cards with defaced pictures or names will need to be replaced.
Can I also gently remind everyone of our uniform expectation as we enter the colder months of the year. Students should not be wearing hoodies, long cardigans or shawls to school. For a full list of our uniform expectation, please visit the school website linked here
Kind regards
Ollie Knight
Year 9 Learning Coordinator
Year 10 Parent Information Event: 11 November 2025
Hi everyone
A quick reminder that our Year 10 Parent Information Evening will take place on Tuesday 11 November at 5.00pm. It’s a great chance to hear key updates about the year ahead and how we’ll be supporting your children through their GCSE journey.
We would love to see as many of you there as possible!
Thanks for your continued support,
The Year 10 Team
Mock Exams
Well done to Year 11 for completing their mock exams with such focus, effort, and resilience. We are proud of their achievements so far and grateful for all the support from parents/carers. This round of mock exams is just the first step, now is the time to build on feedback, maintain momentum, and keep working hard. Every lesson, every bit of revision, and every positive routine makes a difference as we move toward the final exams. Keep up the fantastic effort!
Parent Prom Committee Needed
Please note that the Year 11 Prom is not organised by the school. A parent/carer committee is needed to plan and oversee the event. If you are interested in being part of this committee, please connect with other parents/carers to form one. Once the committee is formed, please email Mr Arnold to confirm - arnoldh@cotham.bristol.sch.uk.
Great Start to Term 2!
Well done to Post 16 students who sat any GCSE re sit exams this week. They conducted themselves very well!
Our RESPECT group met this week and will be doing ongoing work on gender equality at the centre. Lots more to follow on this as part of this work. Over the next 2 weeks, we will be running the 'Give a man a flower' project', as part of Men's mental health month, ahead of International Men's day on Wednesday 19 November. This was a roaring success last year in showing appreciation to the men of Cotham.
This Week in Food Science!
We have had a great start to the new term with Year 7 making Fajita Chicken Wraps, Year 8 Raspberry & White Choc Chip Muffins but I have been particularly impressed with Year 9 this week whilst they take on a technical challenge of creating Choux pastry from scratch transforming them into delicious cream filled Profiteroles! We have had a huge success this week! Well done to all of KS3!!

Art of the Week
This week, the Year 12 art students have been experimenting with oil paints to create a series of impressive artworks.
Working with oil paints can be incredibly rewarding, offering a wide range of possibilities for texture, blending, and luminosity. It's an excellent medium for developing advanced painting techniques.
BEP Leadership Success for Sasha, Ezra, Ayaan, and Edie!
Mrs Griffin would like to extend a huge well done to Sasha, Ezra, Ayaan and Edie who spent an afternoon at Collegiate school this week to participate in the BEP Student Leadership programme. They considered what their core values are, and how this can be applied in leadership. They have each recently shadowed a leader in school who inspires them and considered what good leadership looks like. They fedback that they observed and value skills like empathy, confidence, honesty, integrity and accountability. They are making friends from a wide range of schools across our city, and had great fun completing team building challenges! They are working on some exciting plans for their social action project later in the year so watch this space...
