Email Received
"I wanted to send a long-overdue message of thanks to the Year 7 team. It does not matter if this is not included in the weekly mailing, but I just wanted to pass it along.
I did not go to school in the UK, and as Tyler is my eldest child, this is my first experience of secondary school. I have genuinely been blown away by the care and kindness shown to both him and me during his time at Cotham so far. I did not know what to expect, and I had a vision of my little boy being thrown to the wolves, so I am so happy that this has not been the case.
Zoe, Louise, and Kasia have been absolutely fabulous in putting coping strategies in place and reassuring me that, although things can be tough, I am doing the best I can, which as a single mum can sometimes not feel like enough.
Though long overdue, I hope this message reaches the team and lets them know how much their support has meant to us."
Sincerely
Ms Magnus
Following news reports of a number of meningitis cases in Kent, which has resulted in 2 deaths, Public Health are reminding all parents and students of the importance of Meningitis vaccination. MenACWY is routinely offered to all students during Year 9. We encourage all parents to respond to the invitation and consent process, which will come from the school age immunisation service, Sirona, in the coming weeks.
In Bristol around 35% of older students, in school Years 10 to 13, have not had their MenACWY vaccination. Please can you to check your child’s vaccination record and book an appointment if needed. You can do this via sirona.sch-imms@nhs.net or 0300 1245 515 for students in Years 10 to 13, or alternatively for students in Year 12 or 13 (and other individuals up to the age of 25), via their GP.
Meningitis is an uncommon but serious disease and, in many cases, can be prevented through vaccination which is safe and available. More information about MenACWY vaccination can be found here: Meningococcal ACWY and diphtheria, tetanus and polio – Children and Young People’s Services

Weekly Roundup
Well done Year 8 for getting through your exams over the last couple of weeks. Students will be receiving feedback about their results over the next couple of weeks. Please reassure them that this gives teachers a good insight into what information they have retained and what needs more consolidation. As always, some students will be concerned about the feedback they get, even when really positive. When bookings open for Year 8 parent and carer's evening which will be held on Wednesday 1 April, please do book slots, particularly with subject teachers where there may be any concerns.

Positive Habits Taking Shape
As we move through the term, it has been great to see many Year 10 students settling into positive routines. Turning up on time, being prepared and getting stuck into lessons really does make a difference. We are seeing some strong progress across the year group and are keen to keep that momentum going as we head towards the next few weeks.
Details on Thorpe Park trip coming soon...

This week in Year 11
Yearbook photos have continued this week with another three tutor groups getting their photos taken. Again, it's been a positive experience for all students with lots of encouragement and having fun.
A reminder of non school uniform day next Friday for Year 11 only. This is a fundraising event for the end of year Prom. Year 11 students are encouraged to bring £1 as their contribution to wearing non uniform.
Finally, a massive well done to the GCSE Dance class who completed their exam this week. It was wonderful to see students enjoying the day and working hard.

UCAS Trip and Parent's Evening
This week at Post 16, many of our Year 12 students participated in a UCAS exhibition at WestPoint Arena in Exeter. They had the opportunity to talk with a range of employers from a variety of organisations. The students represented themselves very well, enjoyed the day discussing their future and even came away with some freebies! On Thursday, we had Year 12 Parent's Evening: thank you to all students, parents, carers and staff for these valuable conversations ahead of Mock exams next week!
Year 11 English Reshuffle
Our Year 11 students have now had their mock exams marked and received detailed feedback - we're really proud of how far they've come. To support further progress ahead of their final GCSE exams, we're making some changes to their English class groups. These new groups have been decided based on which specific skills they need to develop the most and will enable their new teacher to better personalise the support in these last few weeks.
Work of the Week - Year 8 Bugs
This week in Art, the Year 8s have been designing their own bugs inspired by existing species. They have used materials of their choice; pencils, coloured pencils, acrylic paint and watercolour paint.
The results are brilliant blend of scientific observation and creative imagination.
Food Science 🥝🍋🍊🍍🍉🌿
This week Year 7 have been creating their own fruit infusion drinks. They learned about the importance of vitamins and minerals in maintaining a balanced diet, discovering how different fruits contribute essential nutrients to the body and sharpening up their knife skills. Students enjoyed experimenting with combinations of flavours while gaining a better understanding of how simple choices can support their overall health and wellbeing. Great work Year 7!
Career of the Week.....is Stunt Person!
Could this be a career for you?
Partial to parcour? Active, fit and ready to go at all times? If you’ve got the strength and resilience to jump, swing and chase for a living, being a stunt person will stretch all your talents.

The day was highly productive, empowering students to shape school development, with findings now prepared to be shared with Senior Leadership Team for consideration.

On Tuesday 17 March, our students hosted a cake sale in the Hub during breaktime to raise vital funds for Islamic Relief Syria.
It was a fantastic community effort, with slices sold for £1.00 and plastic containers provided for those currently fasting so they could enjoy their treats later. Thank you to everyone who baked, bought, or donated to help support this important cause.
