Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find our weekly mailing which I hope you will find both useful and interesting!
With very best wishes for a relaxing weekend.
Kindest regards,
Ms Jo Butler, Headteacher
Thank you to all parents/carers and students who attended Year 12 Family Consultation Day this week. There was a real buzz in the room, with tutors absolutely glowing about the conversation they were able to have with parents/carers and students. Thank you for your continued support, it means so much as we work together for the wellbeing and progress of our young people.
We are running a Read for Good Readathon & we’d love your child to join in.
It’s been proven that children who choose to read their own books are more likely to be empathetic, successful & happier throughout their lives. And to celebrate THE NATIONAL YEAR OF READING 2026 we encourage your child to take part in the READATHON. It is a chance to READ FOR PLEASURE, whilst raising money for children in hospital.
Please CLICK on the link below for all the info you need to know to get you started.
We kindly ask that you remind your child to check the Student Reception for any lost coats or uniform items they may be missing.
All unclaimed coats and uniform items are currently being held on hangers at Student Reception. Students simply need to come and ask to check the lost property area.
Please note: Any items that remain unclaimed will be donated to a local charity at the end of Term 2.
We appreciate your support in helping us reunite these items with their owners before the donation deadline.
Many thanks
On Friday 14 November, staff took part in an Inset day featuring bespoke training from two expert practitioners. Rae Pears, founder of Girlhood Reclaimed, spoke on challenging misogynistic narratives. Hannah Hall, a national behaviour specialist, delivered training on supporting students with ADHD and SEMH needs. Feedback from staff was very positive, and we will work hard to embed related strategies into our daily practice.
Thursday 20 November 2025 saw the return of Rae Pears, Director and Founder of Girlhood Reclaimed. Rae delivers 5 outstanding assemblies to Years 7-11 looking at dismantling misogyny and sexist attitudes. Students were queuing up to speak with Rae after each session and their response was amazing!
Thank you for attending the KS3 Parent Information Event. Attached is the presentation from the evening which is also available on the school website via the KS3 Parent Information Site Portal which can be accessed under the parent/carers section of the school website under Parent Information Events. The video will also be uploaded soon. Parents will be notified as soon as this has been uploaded.

News!
Our Year 7 assembly this week focused on Anti-Bullying Week / World Kindness Day.
Year 7 had an additional assembly this week delivered by Girlhood Reclaimed. The assembly got the students thinking about the different ways we are expected to behave based on our gender and how gender equality impacts us all, and misogyny and sexism and how they impact our everyday lives.
Year 7 students were so well behaved and listened, and were very respectful to our guest speakers in both assemblies.
Year 7 are enjoying their Humanities lessons and have just finished learning map skills and are now studying "Why Geographers are so interested in rivers" in Geography. In History Year 7 are looking at the causes and consequences of the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The topic at the moment in Philosophy & Religion is "How did world religions begin + What do they believe?
Year 7 tutor football started this week, this is a league style tournament where the winning tutor group will be announced at the end of the academic year. There was lots of excitement in tutor bases as the students signed up to represent their tutor group.
It is so lovely to see how engaged and enthusiastic our Year 7 students are during their assemblies and lessons. Their curiosity, willingness to participate, and growing confidence are evident each day.
Mrs Arnold
Year 7 Trip to Christmas Carol
Year 7 trip to Christmas Carol: Thursday 27 November. We will be leaving the school site at 1.05pm. Students will need a packed lunch and a drink. Students can bring cash to purchase an ice cream. The show finishes at 4.30pm and students will be dismissed from the Theatre.
News
Update in English, Year 8 are in the middle of a 'Space Invaders' unit in which they are looking at non-fiction writing examples as inspiration to create their own manifesto for a new society following an imagined alien invasion. They are looking at the rhetorical devices used by writers and speakers such as Martin Luther King to write their own speech to persuade their class to elect them as the colony's new president - there are certainly some creative and persuasive policies on show, supported by effective language skills! Their on-going homework is to complete 30-minutes of careful reading each week on Sparx Reader and achieve 300 points.

More Insight
Year 8 have had two very interesting assemblies this week. The first was presented by Mr Byworth our Designated Safeguarding Lead who talked to Year 8 about the idea of Power and what that means. The students were very engaged and participated brilliantly with some really good answers. This was following Anti-Bullying week last week. The second assembly was presented by 'Girlhood Reclaimed' which is a community interest company that aims to disrupt the growing dominance of misogynistic narrative through feminist research, awareness training and creating safe spaces for young women, girls and children from marginalised genders to make sense of their experiences and reclaim joy in their girlhood.
In tutor time Year 8 have been thinking about how AI models are trained and why they can make mistakes as well as their normal reading days.

Another great week!
Year 9 continue to set a fantastic example for the rest of the school with their maturity and excellent behaviour.
We were also fortunate enough to hear a fantastic assembly by a local organisation called Girlhood Reclaimed. This assembly is kicking off our work around misogyny and sexism across the school and is giving real momentum to the work that needs to be done around this.
The assembly was really well received and we look forward to putting the ideas discussed into practice.
Year 10 Parents Evening

Year 10: Building Skills Beyond the Classroom
Year 10 are settled academically and working well, so now is a great time to build their confidence and soft skills through extra-curricular activities. Many students already attend clubs, but we would love to see even more take part. Please encourage your child to try a new club or activity. Even one a week can make a real difference to their growth and enjoyment of school.
This Week in Year 11
This week, we have continued with the launch of our Shout Out initiative, which aims to celebrate students for their hard work and positive contributions. Students have the chance to receive a ""shout out"" from their tutor and at the end of two weeks, students are entered into a raffle to earn a chocolate reward. We are excited to announce that we have already had a winner in this initiative, congratulations to a student in 11EM for their outstanding efforts!
I have been continually impressed with Year 11's enthusiasm and engagement, particularly in relation to their mock exam results. Many students are showing a strong ambition to improve for the upcoming mocks in February, which is fantastic to see.
I would also like to remind you of the importance of Period 6 attendance. These sessions are a valuable opportunity for students to go into greater detail on specific topics and receive additional support as they prepare for their final exams. It is crucial that all students make the most of this time to ensure they are fully prepared.
Best wishes
Mr Arnold

This Week in Food Science!
Please kindly remind your child/children to collect any food made in Food Science lessons. Recently more items have been left behind, leading to food waste and extra ingredient or packaging costs. Students are encouraged to take their food home to share their learning. We can store items safely overnight, when they accidently fail to remember, to collect the next day but space is limited. Thank you for your continued support. We hope you get to see and taste their delicious creations!
Art of the Week
We are thrilled to showcase the incredible talent of one of our recent A-Level Art students! This dynamic piece demonstrates an exceptional mastery of mixed media, expertly combining the vibrancy of acrylics, the rich texture of oils, and thoughtful elements of collage. It’s a true testament to her skill and dedication during her final year. Well done!
