Math- Last week we began learning about three-digit numbers. This week we will continue to use base-ten blocks to build numbers up to 1000. We will also be writing numbers in expanded form and comparing three-digit numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to. Our Unit 2 test on three-digit numbers will be on Tuesday 10/7.
Reading- Our story this week is Picture Day Perfection. As we read we will be looking at the external and internal traits of the characters. We will also practice creating a mental image as we read. Our reading test will be on Friday 10/3.
Power Words- planned, perfect, hamper, disaster, scowl, mood, queasy, fiddled Words will be tested on Friday as part of our reading assessment.
Spelling- Spelling words are in our spirals. Please practice them this week with your child. Our next spelling test will be on Friday 10/3.
Phonics- This week we will work on words that have a long /a/ or /i/ sound following the CVCe pattern. We will also look at words that have a soft c or g sound.
Grammar- Our grammar lessons this week will focus on 4 types of sentences: statements, questions, commands, and exclamations. We will practice identifying sentences and work on writing each with correct ending punctuation.
Religion- Our new Religion Chapter focuses on Baptism. We are going to learn the steps of the Rite of Baptism. We will also complete and review our first Reconciliation packet.
Social Studies- This week our Weekly Reader focuses on comparing the differences between two types of communities.
**Every night your child will bring home a green folder with any notes, forms, homework, etc. that you need to look over. Please send back anything for me or the school office in the same folder. This folder needs to be returned to school every day this year!
**Students will also have their "spiral" each night listing their homework. Please be sure to check their homework and sign or initial the spiral when they are done so I know you have seen it. Thank you!!
**Library books are due on Tuesdays.
**Please have your child wear their gym uniform with sneakers on Fridays.
