CorpsAfrica Green is an initiative that positions CorpsAfrica Volunteers as part of the solution to environmental problems in Africa and beyond. This low-cost initiative focuses on environment-related training so that Volunteers recognize and address climate change issues in their host communities from a scientific perspective.
By living in rural communities, Volunteers can serve as a resource to the community for broader local climate action; they will liaise with development partners to test environmental innovations and bring back critical information on how their local communities are affected by and adapting to climate change, and lessons learned.
Climate change is no longer a distant threat—it’s a daily reality for millions across Africa, especially in rural communities where resources are limited and resilience is vital. CorpsAfrica Volunteers are stepping up to meet this challenge. With purpose, passion, and practical training, they are leading local solutions to global problems. From building kitchen gardens to improve food security, developing tree nurseries, promoting clean energy, and reviving traditional ecological knowledge, these young leaders demonstrate the power of grassroots action.
At CorpsAfrica, we believe that lasting change begins from within—within individuals, communities, and nations. The CorpsAfrica Green Initiative brings this vision to life by empowering young Africans to lead environmental progress in the communities they know and love.
This program empowers youth with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to support their communities in adapting, innovating, and thriving. It guarantees that rural voices are not only part of the climate conversation but are also leading it through bold local action.
I am incredibly proud of the creativity, commitment, and courage our Volunteers demonstrate each day. They are helping to build a more sustainable, equitable, and hopeful future for all of us.
We invite you to explore the CorpsAfrica Green Resource Hub—Start a Green Project, Get Inspired, or Access Resources to learn more about climate change and discover how you can become a voice for your community.
This Hub is inspired by the remarkable stories from CorpsAfrica Volunteers and their host communities who are driving climate action from the ground up.
Sincerely,

As part of the CorpsAfrica Green Initiative, Volunteer Jonfolo (Gambia G2) and the community of Yonna village co-designed an onion dryer to address the high rate of post-harvest losses. Women in the village were losing income due to the rapid spoilage of harvested onions. This eco-friendly solution now allows for better preservation, extended sales periods, and improved food safety. The project promotes climate-smart agriculture, enhances local income generation, and empowers women through practical, sustainable innovation.
Exchange Volunteer Aissatou Dieng is introducing the Zeer Pot,also known as the "Desert Fridge"—to her community in Senegal and Ghana as a sustainable method of food preservation. This low-tech cooling system uses natural evaporation to keep food fresh without the need for electricity. By layering two clay pots with damp sand and covering with a moist cloth, the system can significantly extend the shelf life of perishables. Aissatou’s hands-on training empowers community members with a practical solution to reduce food waste, especially in rural areas lacking reliable refrigeration, and contributes to local climate resilience through traditional innovation.
In Makindu village, Buikwe District, Volunteer Ashraf facilitated a climate-smart initiative empowering local women with sustainable energy solutions. The Makindu Women’s Group is now producing eco-friendly briquettes as an alternative to traditional charcoal and firewood. This clean energy project—Smart Kitchens, Smart Women, Smart Homes—not only helps reduce deforestation and indoor air pollution but also equips women with new income-generating skills. The initiative promotes environmental responsibility while strengthening community resilience through women-led innovation.
