Museum Month

San Diego Museum Month may look different this year but it's still a great time to discover the county's diverse range of museums, historic sites, gardens, zoo/aquariums, and more.

Follow the San Diego Museum Council every day in February through their website and on social media for virtual activities, live events, educational programs, virtual art exhibitions, behind-the-scenes tours, and other museum happenings. Although some events are ticketed, many will be free. Examples include:

More Virtual Field Trips Through ArtsBusXpress. Currently there are 55 unique virtual field trips. Each experience is live, interactive, and personalized. Teachers can apply for the necessary funding.

Local libraries are celebrating museum month too. Check out the San Diego County Library's museum-centric recommended reading list.

Sony Electronics Inc. launches the KOOV Academy

We are pleased to let you know that Sony Electronics Inc. announced the launch of KOOV Academy in partnership with UC San Diego Education Studies Department. This program supports educators as they implement STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programs in the classroom, in a way that keeps students highly engaged. KOOV is an all-in-one coding, robotics and design kit that combines digital coding with physical building to teach the next generation of innovators. Congratulations to Dr. Amy Eguchi, Assistant Teaching Professor in Education Studies for all her hard work in making this partnership happen.

The STEAM program will offer educators "getting started" trainings, help them design lesson plans, and will provide classroom support for the kickoff of their programs. In addition, Sony has committed to donating KOOV robotics and coding kits to classrooms serving underprivileged students across San Diego, enabling them to start their programs. The program’s goal is to support classrooms serving underprivileged populations of students in San Diego through remote lessons to promote STEM and Computer Science learning (STREAM)for their students

For those interested in KOOV Academy participation or wish to hear about opportunities in the community, please submit an interest form here.
