California Humanities is pleased to announce the upcoming March 15, 2021 deadline for the next round of the California Documentary Project NextGen grants. The CDP NextGen grant program supports California’s next generation of documentary storytellers ages 18 and under. California-based nonprofit organizations and public agencies, including schools and libraries, with track records in youth media programming, may apply for grants up to $15,000. Funding is available to provide training to emerging media makers to create short, insightful nonfiction films and/or podcasts that tell original stories about life in California today.

The Ross Store-Based Giving Program provides donations to eligible schools and government programs within 25 miles of a Ross Dress for Less or dd's DISCOUNTS store. Funding is intended to build academic achievement and life skills in economically disadvantaged youth, ages 3-24. Schools must be either Title 1 designees or have at least 40% of their students participate in free or reduced lunch. Programs with a focus on literacy, STEM, tutoring, stay-in-school efforts, and college readiness can qualify. Support is provided primarily in the form of gift cards. For complete details, visit the program page. Applications are ongoing.
The U.S. General Services Administration has set up the Computers for Learning (CFL) program website to encourage and promote the reuse of computers. Schools and educational organizations are eligible to request computer equipment reallocated from government agencies. Applicants must register with the CFL website and once registered, schools can view and select computer equipment that federal agencies have reported as excess and submit requests for items they need. Items include: laptops, desktop systems, monitors, keyboards, scanners, printers. Schools must pay shipping and handling and any refurbishing costs. Visit the CFL website. Applications are ongoing.
Other options include city foundations, school foundations, and of course most large businesses have a foundation office that will provide giving opportunities. And this is a running list of grants doc created by the SDCOE.
