Revision Timetables

How to set up a successful revision timetable

  1. Is it a term time or holiday timetable?

If it's a revision timetable for term time, cross out 9:00am -3:00pm (you already work at school!)

  1. Add in any activities you already do

Do you have sports practice or a club you do each week? It's important while revising to keep doing the things you like!

  1. Block out other times you can't work

Do you take a bus home, so can't start revising until 5pm? Do you want to take Saturdays off? Do you really think you can get up and START revising properly at 7am? - Block out these times. Be realistic.

  1. Now add in 1 hour of revision for each subject a week

This might not seem like a lot, but 1 hour is a good starting point. You can add in more revision time as you get closer to exams. Don't plan in too much revision early on. It's easy to get overwhelmed and demotivated.

I suggest 1 hour a week per subject up until Christmas. Then 1 hour 30 mins until Feb Half Term. Then 2 hours up until the exams.

  1. Split revision time up into manageable chunks

Do you struggle to sit and concentrate fully for an hour? Maybe instead of 1 hour of Maths, do two 30 minute sessions or three 20 minute ones instead!

  1. Space it out!

No one wants to do an hour of Maths, then French, then Poetry on a Friday night! - Spread out the revision.

  1. Plan in your breaks so you don't waste revision time

Maybe do 30 mins of Chemistry, then take a 15 minute break and have a snack, then do the other 30 minutes

  1. STICK IT UP AND STICK TO IT

Put the timetable on the wall or fridge where you'll see it every day. No use putting it in a draw and forgetting about it. And if it doesn't work, MAKE A NEW ONE! DON'T GIVE UP! STAY ORGANISED!

NOTE: A revision timetable for holidays should be much more full than that for term time. For a holiday revision timetable I would suggest setting yourself 3 hours of revision for each subject a week as a starting point!
