Students begin following the GCSE AQA specifications in Year 9, where students learn the building blocks and core, foundation knowledge they will need for the GCSE course. We have designed our course so that this will build on our tailor made KS3 recall and mastery curriculum.
In Years 9 students are taught material common to the Triple Science and Combined Science courses. We have carefully planned the order and delivery of the course so it builds on and extends understanding from concepts studied lower down the school.
At the end of Year 9, we ask students which route they want to take in Year 10 and 11, either Combined Science or Triple Science. The choice is the students' as we believe that this is a vital ingredient in ensuring their success at GCSE. We will support students in making their decision and in studying which ever course they select.
For more information about Year 9 science options, see our page here.
Students in Year 9 , 10 and 11 are taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics by specialist teachers.
Year 11 lessons will cover the remaining content of the course and there will be a small amount of time available for revision in class. However, students must supplement their time in lessons with regular revision at home. Please see above for further guidance on revision resources and plans.
