friday afternoon activities

2020 Intercultural Salon! For all schools bussing into Conway on Friday afternoon/evening (and for those near enough to pop on over!), Hendrix College is hosting an Intercultural Salon—basically a Fancy Conversation Party. Pairs of student organizations will be co-hosting topics of intercultural conversations, games, food and activities to give your students a warm and casual orientation to the campus as they prepare for their competitions on Saturday. Participants currently include French Club, Murphy Scholars, Students for Black Culture, Muslim Student Alliance, Cuong Nhu Martial Arts Club and Sword Club, and the list is growing! The focus of our activities will be from 3pm to 6pm, arrive and join in at any time!

If you are arriving at Hendrix College on Friday later than 6pm and/or are seeking some post-dinner entertainment, 7:30-8:30pm in Cabe Theatre inside the Mills Building, the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation is sponsoring “4H: Home-Grown Theatre”, a project for current Hendrix playwrights to give staged readings of their short works. We hope to see many of you there!

Event conflicts

What do I do if I have two conflicting events scheduled at the same time?

Due to the numerous individual events in this competition, scheduling conflicts are common for students. In that situation, events such as vocabulary bee, culture bowl, drama, music, dance, or live sketch should be done first before the other language events. Students are advised to inform the room monitor for the language event that they have a conflict and will return once their cultural event is complete. They should then inform the monitor for the culture event that they need to perform first in order to get to another event.

For example, my culture bowl team competes at 1:00 and my team needs me to be on time or we will forfeit the match. I also have Poetry scheduled from 1:00-2:00, but I can go recite my poem at 1:35 after my culture bowl match is complete.

All students participating in live events such as vocabulary bee, culture bowl, and the live art sketch must report on time before their event begins.

All students participating in group events such as drama, music, or dance need to be available to perform with the group, but can be scheduled at various times within the scheduled time block.

Students participating in individual events such as poetry, reading or speaking can be flexible with their performance order within the scheduled time block.
