Q. What are the requirements for a student to enroll in the school district?
Unless tuitioned in, the student must be living with a legal guardian and legal residency in the school district.
Q. Will the school provide my child with a mask if he or she comes without one.
The student will be provided with a mask if he/she doesn't have one, if the student refuses to wear a mask he/she will have go home to participate remotely.
Q. Do students need to wear a certain kind of mask?
Masks should cover the nose and mouth and fit underneath the chin. Gaiters and masks with button filters should not be worn.
Q. Can a student enroll in VLACS and still be an enrolled student with the school district?
Yes, students can be simultaneously enrolled in the ConVal School District and in VLACS.
Q. If a parent chooses VLACS for their Kindergartener and a fourth grader, where would they get their guidance for what courses their child is required to take?

Q. How will pods be created?
At the elementary school level, students were assigned to pods with keeping household groups together as a priority. This allows family groups to be bussed together. At the middle schools, family members were put in the same pod. Students are in grade-level classes., with each class being made up by about 15 students. At ConVal High School, the cohorts were determined by geography.
Q. Can I switch cohorts or pods to be with my friends?
Not at this time.
Q. If bussing is being done by pods, does that mean that pods will likely be based on geography?
No, pods will not necessarily be organized geographically. This is why we are asking parents to drive if at all possible.
Q. Can my student opt-in to remote learning but come in person for band?
At this time, students need to commit to either remote or in person instruction. As we move into the year we may be able to accommodate requests for different combinations.
Q. When students are outside in classrooms, will the remote students have good connectivity?
The tech department has also considered this and is working on the infrastructure to make sure connectivity is strong.
Q. How will bathrooms be handled?
Each pod will have assigned bathrooms and one student will be allowed in the bathroom at a time. Pods will work together to determine their systems of when kids will leave the classroom to use the bathroom. Bathrooms will be cleaned on a regular basis, per CDC guidelines.
Q. How will grab and go breakfast work for the high school?
We are working on a plan for satellite locations to pick up food at breakfast time.
Q. Will students who elect to be fully remote the entire year also be mixed into Blue/Gold classes? Or will they have "all remote" sections built for them, based on need and teacher availability?
Yes, the students will be integrated into the hybrid classes. However, there may be an opportunity for solely remote classes.
Q. What are the criteria for Special Education students who may need to be physically in the building? (OT/PT/Speech)
All special education services will be determined by an IEP team for the services they need.
Q. If a student does not have adequate access to internet and district issued equipment is not effective, can we establish a set of parameters that would allow some students to come to school during fully remote instruction?
The School District will identify priority students who may need to come to school during remote periods.
Q. Will technology be sent home for elementary students?
Yes, during periods of remote learning, students will be issued a Chromebook. However, Chromebooks will not be going home during in-person learning. Families who need a Hot Spot can request one from the district.
Q. How will specialists move across pods?
In the elementary schools, specialists will work within pods or schools for extended periods of time to minimize movement between pods or schools. At GBS and SMS, specialists are assigned to each pod for 7 weeks at a time.
Q. Remote for 2 months in December and January? What are working families supposed to do
The safety of the students and staff are the top priority. These tend to be time periods during the school year when more students become sick.
Q. What if a student has a condition that may present symptoms also associated with COVID-19, e.g, allergies?
Students will be screened daily, any student who displays symptoms will go to the COVID accommodation room where they will be screened by a nurse so that preexisting conditions, such as seasonal allergies, can be considered.
Q. What are the protocols for when someone tests positive?
If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, the individual will need to learn and/or work from a remote setting until documentation from a primary care physician (PCP) clears the individual to return to work/school. All symptom-based criteria have to be met to come out of isolation, i.e.
At least 10 days have passed since symptom onset and
At least 72 hours have passed since recovery, with recovery being defined as the resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, and
Other COVID-19 related symptoms have abated.
Q. If a student who tests positive has a sibling, will the sibling need to self-quarantine?
Yes
Q. If a student is in a school that closes do a student or staff member testing positive, would a sibling attending a different school in the district also need to quarantine?
Yes
Q. If a student learns that they came into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, what is the minimum number of days that they will need to quarantine?
Students will have to self-isolate for 14 days or can return when they have received a negative COVID-19 test result.
