Hi, my name is Shawn Mire. I’m 52 years old and happily married to the love of my life. Together, we have eleven children and fourteen grandchildren—with two more expected in 2023. Life has taught me that everyone faces struggles, and my own journey through addiction has shown me that no one is exempt from hardship. Having over 20 years in recovery, I’ve dedicated myself to helping others facing similar battles.
My recovery journey inspired me to create and facilitate support programs over the years, ultimately leading me to become a Certified Peer Counselor. I believe lived experience is one of the most powerful tools we have to connect with and support others on their path to healing.
In the face of the ongoing opioid and fentanyl crisis, and the cycle so often seen in our correctional systems, I’m passionate about using my life experience to support individuals with Substance Use Disorders and Behavioral Health challenges. I share my story to offer hope, promote self-advocacy, and encourage the development of natural support systems—key components that helped me build a life of stability and purpose.
Climbing out of addiction allowed me to become a homeowner, rise to a supervisory position with a large company, and mentor others to find their own path to success. Joining the CONQUER team as a Peer Support Counselor is both an honor and a fulfillment of my desire to give back. I look forward to walking alongside others as they reclaim autonomy, build independence, and chart their own recovery journeys. Together, we can make a lasting difference—and give people hope.
