Joining the lab

Are you a Connecticut College student interested in learning what it means to conduct research?  Are you potentially interested in graduate school, or a research-related career?  Welcome!  We love to hear from and meet with students who are interested in learning more about conducting research and talk about opportunities available in our lab.

What do students do in the lab?

Each semester (and sometimes in the summer), we have a number of Connecticut College students in the lab helping with our research - you can see some of them in our lab members section.  At any given time, we are running a number of studies that collect data from human participants to learn more about cognition. Being involved in the lab entails learning to use specialized equipment for measuring eye movements, hand movements, behavioral responses, and electrical brain activity, and then using those skills to help collect data for these projects.  Students can also participate in data analysis, interpretation, computer programming, experimental design, and numerous other aspects of the research process depending on their interests.  In some cases, students who want a deeper level of involvement conduct individual studies or honors theses for course credit. To learn more about the kinds of research we do, check out the research page on this website.

What if i'm interested in research at Connecticut College but want to explore other options

Google whichever department you are interested in (e.g., "Psychology Connecticut College"), check out the department web page, and email a faculty member who's work looks interesting.  I cannot stress this enough - we love to hear from students who are interested in learning about our research!   The worst thing that will happen is that somebody will not respond, but in almost every case you will hear back and the person will be happy that you emailed them.

Who can be involved?

Everyone! Everyone is welcome, regardless or your previous experience, major, etc. We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment and welcome students from all background and identities to join in our research. If the research we do sounds interesting to you and you want to find out more about getting involved, please fill out this google form.  Filling out the form only takes a few minutes and is not a commitment of any kind.  Instead, I will follow up by email and we can meet or talk more if you'd like. Don't hesitate to email jmoher@conncoll.edu with any questions.
