The student must achieve a total of 10 points across the following categories to qualify for the HAL program:
Achievement (NSCAS/FastBridge): Evaluation of National Percentile Ranks in ELA and Math.
Goal: Scores in the 90th–99th+ percentile range to secure 3–10 points.
Cognitive Ability (OLSAT): Assessment of composite scores.
Goal: A score of 110+ to secure 5–10 points.
Teacher Observation (SIGS): Qualitative assessment of gifted scales.
Goal: Identifying strengths in 1–7+ scales for 1–5 points.
Academic Acceleration: For students scoring in the 97-99+ percentile in Achievement, provide "curriculum compacting" to allow for faster pacing through standard material.
Higher-Level Reasoning: Utilize high OLSAT composite scores to drive instruction focused on synthesis, evaluation, and abstract problem-solving rather than rote memorization.
SIGS-Informed Enrichment: Design projects specifically around the scales where the teacher noted the highest percentiles (e.g., if the student scored high in the "Creativity" or "Leadership" scale).
Independent Study Contracts: For students who have mastered grade-level standards, allow them to pursue a research project in a field of interest (e.g., advanced robotics, historical analysis, or creative writing).
Quarterly Reviews: Assess whether the student is meeting the goals outlined in Section II.
Annual Re-evaluation: Update the Point Sheet with the latest test data to ensure the student still meets the 10-point threshold for the following year.
