Age, road areas and locations, specific genders, behavior, days of the week etc.
1. Download the 2016 SA Road Data CSV file and save on your computer
2. Using excel to complete the following tasks
Sort the data by one particular field (column) - what can you see within the data
Create a pivot table that shows day crashes vs night crashes - create a basic pie chart to display results
Create a pivot table to display a summary of accidents that occurred in different speed zones - display in a column graph
Create a pivot table to determine what type of road (position field) and crash type most accidents occurred in . Create a graph to summarise.
Create a pivot table that summarises the fatalities vs casualties for each month. Display as a column graph
Did the data have any missing data in particular fields? Why might this be the case?
How accurate is the data in the sheet?
The pivot table summaries the all the data into categories to make it easier to understand. However sometimes its hard to find out what the data really means. We can then use charts and graphs to help identify this information.
Task - Create a chart for each of the pivot tables you created above.
Think about a local issue, it could be about:
Environment - air or water quality
Safety - sharks on beaches, crime in areas
Transportation - traffic congestion, number of people using public transport
Housing - Growth and Sales in area
Health - number of ambulance calls, hospital waiting times
