Camaryn Petersen

Camaryn Petersen, senior at Concord-Carlisle High School. I participate in varsity swim team and outdoor track. I became interested in newborn medicine after my cousin, Connor, was born prematurely and I visited him in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Holding a three-pound baby is something I will never forget. Connor passed away after 259 days of fighting to survive. I aspired to help other infants survive the fight Connor lost. I have started fundraisers, hosted collection drives, and donated handmade gifts in his honor, under the title Project 259. I also completed a research project in school about neonatal injustices; focusing on the social issues that can affect newborns. Next year, I will be a pre-medical major and hope to eventually become a neonatologist. I also plan to complete research in college focusing on newborn genetics.
