Please share the "How to Apply" page with them.

Who is the audience?

TED rules limit the audience in the room to 100 people at any given time, but we will livestream the event and have plenty of spillover seating – and food! --- in other rooms throughout the building.

All speeches will be video-recorded and eventually uploaded to TEDx’s website, so really, the audience is the entire world!

Is this a “real” TED conference?

It’s a TEDx Youth conference. TEDx conferences are independently organized, licensed, TED-style events. That means that this event is 100% home-grown, constructed and conducted by members of the Concord Carlisle community. However, we operate under the guidelines dictated by the license we applied for and received from TED, and as a result our videos will eventually be hosted at the TEDx website. What is Concord Carlisle?

Concord-Carlisle High School is the public high school for the towns of Concord and Carlisle in Massachusetts, also serving students from Boston who are enrolled via the METCO program. Our school’s mission is to inspire our students to strive for and meet the highest levels of academic and personal achievement, while nurturing a respectful, supportive, engaged, curious, and passionate learning community.

Located in the town that was home to Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and other great thinkers and proponents of human freedom and dignity, not to mention the birthplace of the American Revolution (the “shot heard ‘round the world” was fired not too far from our school site) and the American abolitionist movement, the Concord-Carlisle community does its best to carry the torch of independent thought and concern for human welfare as we educate future generations.

Also, for what it’s worth, we did get named the second best high school in Massachusetts in Boston Magazine’s 2018 rankings. ☺

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouthConcordCarlisle, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxYouthConcordCarlisle event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
