ARTIST STATEMENT
For two decades, my passion for clay has propelled me on a journey as a ceramic storyteller. My work transcends mere form, inviting viewers to uncover hidden narratives and personal interpretations, fostering a profound connection.
My artistic foundation is a tapestry woven from diverse experiences. Growing up on Cape Cod, I spent thirteen summers immersed in the vibrant art community at the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill. This early influence deepened through formal printmaking training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and in house graphic design work at Harvard's Graduate School of Design. However, it was at Mudflat Studios where I truly discovered my artistic voice in clay, mastering coil building and pushing the boundaries of traditional ceramic techniques
In 2009, a renewed fascination with coil building set my creativity ablaze. My hands became extensions of my imagination, weaving forms inspired by both ancient traditions and contemporary aesthetics. By incorporating printmaking techniques like monoprint and sgraffito, I infuse each piece with layers of texture and imagery, transforming them into captivating narratives. My work becomes an invitation to explore emotions, spark conversations, and discover beauty in the unexpected.
Sharing my love for ceramics has been a constant thread throughout my artistic journey. For years, I had the privilege of teaching adult students at the Umbrella Arts Center, nurturing their creativity and fostering a deeper appreciation for the transformative power of clay. This passion for education led me to my current role as a ceramics teacher at Concord-Carlisle High School, where I continue to inspire young artists to discover their own unique voices in clay.
