Classes current class offerings begin and end as the traditional face-to-face courses do, in concurrence with the semesters. All coursework must be submitted prior to the last deadline. Students will access their virtual course through Unified Classroom on the first day of the course. MOVE UP Academy students are expected to log in at least three times each week.
The courses are designed for students to have increased flexibility. However, it’s important you meet the targeted deadlines as outlined by your teacher. Online course grades through MOVE UP Academy are handled in the same manner as face-to-face courses at Concord High School. Failure to complete assignments by the specified course dates will impact your grades. The final grade received in the MOVE UP course will be documented on your transcript; therefore, it’s important you remain committed to your studies. Finally, some of our courses do require limited on-site activities, experiences, and/or exams. Your course instructor will provide this information closer to the launch of the course.
To help you be successful online, you and your parents are encouraged to attend our MOVE UP Academy orientation that will be scheduled just prior to the first day of school. Many of our online course instructors will be available that evening so you can ask specific course questions at that time. The meeting will occur at the MOVE UP Academy.
All MOVE UP Academy students are expected to use and frequently check their Concord gmail accounts for MOVE UP Academy communications. Some course activities may require students still have access to a computer/laptop. Access to ongoing and reliable high-speed wi-fi is a must for an online course. Students will need to either have wi-fi at home, plan to study at a location with free wi-fi available in addition to the access at the MOVE UP Academy. The MOVE UP Academy will be open later than Concord High School in order to support student learning for students in grades 9-12.
Do you believe you need to drop a MOVE UP Academy course? The policy regarding traditional courses is the same policy that virtual courses follow. That policy states that there are only three reasons in which a schedule change can occur (after the last day of the previous school year):
A. an error in the student’s schedule (as documented on the request form)
B. to allow an academic upgrade (generally to a higher level of the same course, such as changing English 9 to English 9-Honors)
C. academic incapability (in which the student, student’s parents, counselor, and teacher agree that the student is not academically capable of moving forward to the next level of the course)
If you have an IEP and anticipate needing accommodations, please contact Denise Tahara, MOVE UP Academy Administrator, dtahara@concord.k12.in.us prior to the start of the course so that we can make sure your learning needs are appropriately met.
