Makayla Borosh

(Senior Showcase Winner)

Before we get started on my artwork, I’d like for you to get to know me a little better. My name is Makayla Borosh, and I plan on attending IUSB in the fall to study entrepreneurship and minor in art. Besides art, my interests include nature, music, Ghibli films, and science. If I wasn’t in love with art I would probably be going to school for marine biology.

I’ve been drawing since I was a kid but I started taking my art seriously in sixth grade. I joined our school's art club and realized I had a passion for creating. Since I entered high school, I’ve taken as many art classes as I can. I specialize in drawing traditionally, often preferring to use charcoal, graphite, and colored pencils. I love to draw portraits, and often incorporate nature into my pieces. This is my second year taking AP art classes and this year my portfolio is based around femininity and floral symbolism. I’ve actually started dipping my toes into Surrealism this year, I’ve found that I love making portraits where the head is actually a bunch of plants. I often use the plants to show who the person really is.

After college, I plan on starting my own art business. My dream is to open an art store and café where local artists can display and sell their artwork. I’d love to provide a safe space for the community to create and share their art. If possible, I’d also love to hold weekly events in the store. Events such as painting/drawing classes, open critiques, and possibly an open mic night in the café.
