This year, Comsewogue formed its very own Dance Team that practices three days a week and performs at many JV and Varsity Basketball games. Toward the beginning of the school year, the Dance Team had its very first practice. Since then, a number of people tried out, but many left. Now, the team consists of five girls who are coached by Mrs. Hagenburg and Mrs. Diveris.
As many people left, the team got off to a rough start. “It was definitely a slow start, we had a lot of people drop out in the beginning," said Freshman Anjali Sooknanan. However, it all worked out because the team became a solid group. “I feel like everyone works well together,” said Freshman Abbie Bozzanca. “We were lucky enough to get a great group of dedicated girls,” added Mrs. Hagenburg.
After putting in the hard work, the Dance Team shows off what they learned at the JV and Varsity basketball games. They perform a hip-hop routine and a jazz routine. The coaches enjoy watching the girls perform because they, “See them improving as [they] progress through the season,” said Mrs. Hagenburg.
The coaches make the experience of being on the Dance Team even better for the girls because they formed such a strong bond with them. “The experience has been really fun… The coaches are just like so funny and nice,” said Anjali Sooknanan.

As this season came to an end, the Dance Team shared some of their hopes for the future.
“We hope to grow our dance team next year, and we hope to compete- hopefully go to nationals,” said Mrs. Diveris. Abbie Bozzanca added how much she wants to compete at nationals, and Anjali Sooknanan discussed how she wants the dance team to become an official team.
Even though they got off to a rocky start, Mrs. Hagenburg and Mrs. Diveris had faith in the five girls on their team. They put in the hard work and effort while having a great time throughout the season. They have big goals for this team in the future, and they can achieve them by continuing to work together. The Dance Team can only get better from here!

Hearing about the overall goal of this club is so inspiring- it presents an environment for students to find wisdom from people who have experience in the business field. Madison Maida says, “ I joined Women in Business because I’m interested in a career in business, so I felt that it would expand my horizon of knowledge.” And the club is offering just that!
They had many speakers that came by and spoke in the club. The Women in Business adviser says that the student’s favorite is, Kerri Mertz. She provided a different kind of approach and inventiveness into the minds of the students in Comsewogue. Because she traveled so much, students really liked the thought of traveling.
If you are thinking about this club, it will present originality and provide advice for the future generation coming into the business field. Giving students the experience of hearing from guest speakers gives a real-life look into the Business industry.

There is an amazing club at Comsewogue High School called Women in Business that presents an opportunity for women and men to find inspiration and motivation through speakers like Kelly Sleece, Kerri Mertz, Ree Wackett, and many more coming throughout the year.
This whole club's purpose is to allow female and male entrepreneurs to connect with mentors and encourage future business owners. So this is a great advantage for people thinking of going into business to learn, this would be a great advantage to learn how people start from point a to point b when it comes to the world of business, and students get a sneak peek of the industry.
When the club adviser for Women in Business and fellow students in the club were interviewed, they all gave a high definition of what Women in Business is. Women in Business is “where we inspire women and men to join the club and hear stories from Guest speakers,” Ms. Katyal defined it.

Every student applies themself differently to school, and every student has different skill sets and interests, like sports or the arts. Some students find themselves in their academics more than others. The Quiz Bowl provides a great outlet for students to share facts they already know through trivia and is an excellent opportunity to meet similar like-minded people in that arena to come together to craft a solid-minded team.
Quiz bowl is a trivia-based club competing island-wide between different schools and districts. Comsewogue has a wide variety of members with know-how and personalities, enhancing the team in a new light. Mrs. McGuinness instructs the quiz bowl and brings an understanding of what it entails and the students who join it. She states, "I go out, and I ask teachers; someone in 10th grade who is bright, who do you think I should try to recruit?" One of the many ways someone can join Quiz Bowl is Mrs. McGuinness goes and asks teachers from their classes about bright students that they believe would enjoy a club like Quiz bowl.
The Quiz bowl team has shown a new perspective on combining academic excellence with extracurricular activities. This year the Quiz bowl team has scored undefeated, winning against "Smithtown East, Smithtown West, Saint Anthony's, and more... both JV and our varsity teams have won overall."
The quiz bowl teams host a JV and a varsity team not distinguished by grade, but by the player's ability to answer questions and their experience in the competitions to support it. Comsewogue has a strong, well-rounded team with knowledge of different subjects and topics that each player contributes to the team.
The Quiz bowl team meets every Wednesday every week from September through May. "I actively go out and recruit people from the lower grades that I would think would like it to enjoy it," says Mrs. McGuinness
As it comes to an end, looking forward to the future. Finding more members is essential in realizing how the team's seniors are leaving. As a fun event, the quiz bowl team culminates with teachers and has a teacher-student quiz bowl. Seniors get to pick out which teachers they get to play from every subject.
Quizbowl is for everyone, and you can join the many successes of this year; we encourage new young competitive minds to join.
CCC: Making a Difference Among The Local Community
By Camila Perez
The Comsewogue Community Connections Club (CCC) is a great group of people that have positively impacted the local community for almost six years. The club's primary goal is to help others, which they are able to accomplish by volunteering and raising money through fairs, healthy bake sales, and other means. The CCC’s efforts support scholarships, the Comsewogue Active Warrior Network (supporting troops who graduate Comsewogue), Joe's day of Service, and Jackie's Garden, among other causes and events.
Mr. Harris is the club's advisor. He takes great pride in the students' achievements and the club is proud to prioritize its community and encourages involvement in its various initiatives. The “great stuff”, in Mr. Harris’ words, that they do is showcased by the same students that write articles for the newspaper. By working to make the community a better place, the CCC is an example of the great effect individuals can make when they come together to do good.
Kylie Schlosser is the club's president. She's been a part of it for two years and is committed to helping and attending various events representing the CCC. According to her, being a part of this club has been a fulfilling experience. "I like volunteering, helping people, and being a part of my community," she says. Kylie also is the school representative at the Port Jefferson Station Terryville Civic Association every month.

Sofia Castro and Alexa Kallmeyer are two juniors who are also part of the CCC. They have been active in the club's actions and agree that being a part of it has helped them improve and grow as people. They have created bonds with their fellow members and the community itself. Sofia says, “It has brought a lot of opportunities to me as a person and a student. It is a great place to meet other people, and offers a lot of inclusivity.”
The CCC's members are constantly learning essential values and gaining experiences that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. As Mr. Harris, the club advisor, says, "When you help other people, it is really a gift to yourself."

Peer Pals
By Haley Garafola
Once a month, a club comes to the skills classroom to help the students with social skills for the adult world after high school. They also meet to hang out and get to know their fellow classmates whom they don’t often bump into every day. We call this the Peer Pals Club.
Peer Pals always meets on the first Thursday of every month to join the skills class in helping them with skills for the real world. They help with things like teaching them about door dash and other delivery apps if they can’t physically go out. They also do small crafts with students to just hang out and talk.
At the beginning of the year, they have a google slide presentation teaching the club members about the different learning disabilities. Club president Payton Coyle says “At the start of the year peer pals go on to do fun and engaging activities throughout the school year."
In the beginning, they did some games and activities. Former advisor Mrs.Mujanovic says "In the beginning, we came together to do puzzles and board games as well as scavenger hunts". During December they made craft candy cane reindeer for the Christmas holiday.
In January they celebrated the new year with a pizza party and everyone sat down, ate pizza, and drank soda. Overall they had a great time together. Just recently in February, they created valentine's day letters to their loved ones.
For future activities, they have a lot planned, In March they plan to color and decorate St. Patrick’s Day items to put up in their classroom. For the following months, each activity is based on the holidays in those months. For example, in April there is April fools' day and Easter. In May there’s Mother's Day and Memorial day.

Comic books have been here for a long time and many people read comics in the 50s because most people didn’t have television. Comic books can connect with a lot of people because there are a lot of different genres that people can enjoy and share with others.
Our school has a Comic book club; if you are interested you can go to room 112 on Thursday from 2:05 to 2:45 after school to watch movies like superheroes, villains, and war-related movies and read comic books of the same genres as the movie in a group. Currently, the club only has 4 members.
I came in and interviewed the club advisor and the club president. The Club advisor Mr. Hughes said, “They learn about the creation of comics and the history of it.” This can be interesting for people who don’t know the club and he also said, ”The club was informed so anyone can come to the club every other Thursday.” Taylor said, “I joined the club with my friend Roy who wanted to help find people who love comic books and now Roy graduated so I want to continue the club.”Also, both of them said they love reading comics and share a common interest in comic books. The club was made a few years ago and the people in it said they love the club because they get to eat snacks while watching interesting movies.
Of course, there are going to be some negative things about the club like the meeting being too short because they only get to watch 25 to 30 minutes of the movie every Thursday each week. Also, they can't read many comics as of now because they have to finish their movie which is gonna take around 3 Thursday. There are only 4 members in the club for people to talk with each other.
We hope more people will join the club and help expand it. To help make the club bigger and more active so more people can talk about their interests with others.
How Fast Do Metals Corrode?
Science Club Can Be Fun!
If this title caught your attention, you might want to consider joining the Science Club! This topic, and many others like this, are experimented with and answered in this fun setting.
Science Club is a club where students who love science can have fun after school conducting experiments and understanding how fun science can be. Under the advisement of Mrs. Goldberg, the members of the science club are given the opportunity to play, experiment, and have fun under the guidance of a teacher who keeps it safe.
The science club meets every other Friday from 2:00-3:30. The atmosphere is easy-going and casual. Science club is considered a place where students can go and play with fun chemistry sets, or break out the chemicals and see what happens!
Mrs. Goldberg is open to any science experiments the students want to explore, she says “I just love conducting experiments at home, and for fun, so I want to bring these concepts into a casual environment, where students can see what fun science can be!”
Some of the many experiments the club has done this year include saponification which is making their own soap, experimentation with gas laws, exploring the oxidation of metals, looking at a variety of acid-based reactions, and electrochemistry experiments. In the future, Mrs. Goldberg is planning on creating mud-watt batteries and also plans on making electricity from soil microbes.
Some members helped the Science Honor Society with science night and were able to get community service hours for helping, but that was optional. The Science club is a place to just have fun and develop a love of science.
New members are always welcome. Stop by room 202 anytime to ask questions about how you can join this super fun club!
