In order to offer a safe space for kids to maintain the Halloween Spirit, clubs got together to set up tents filled with decorations and candy for Comsewogue’s annual Trick or Treat Street. For many years, the high school has hosted this event where young kids can come and enjoy trick or treating without the danger of the streets. While this event is fun for the kids, the high school students also have an ample amount of fun in their preparations for it.
We met with Mrs. O’Hara, the Girls Leaders Club’s advisor, to get some information about Trick or Treat Street and what it entails. She told us about how her club runs the whole event, and it takes a lot of creativity and effort to put it all together. She said, “So the Girls Leaders Club actually starts doing this in September. We first start working on our theme, and throughout the entire event we work on sending out flyers to the elementary schools, and to JFK, making sure that we plan all of the clubs and what they’re doing because we really coordinate the entire event.” Mrs. O’Hara then discussed how she has been a part of Trick or Treat Street for approximately eight years.
To get a different point of view, we met with Ms. Casey- the advisor of the English Honor Society, SADD, and LEAP. This is Ms. Casey’s first year participating in Trick or Treat Street, and she told us how she felt while she was getting ready for the event. She said, “I’m super excited to get involved and get to see the kids in their element outside of the classroom.” However, preparing for Trick or Treat Street did come with some challenges because it’s “during an extremely busy time of the year” and “students are spread very thin between numerous Trick or Treat Street events,” as Ms. Casey said.
The day of Trick or Treat Street finally came around. After the last bell, students headed down to the rotunda and the cafeteria to set up their tents. All of the decorations were put together, and club members made some final touches. By the time every club was ready, kids and parents began piling into the school. They then made their way to each tent, where they got a lot of good candy. The kids had a great time, and they got into the Halloween spirit in a safe and fun way!

With college decisions around the corner for seniors and the start of interest peaking for juniors, over 75+ colleges attended the college fair at Comsewogue on Tuesday, October 11th from 8 am to 9 am to help ease this very stressful process. As a fellow senior going through the cruises of the college crunch, this was a way for me to get to know what the schools that piqued my interest offered when it came to my desired profession. One of the most hilarious parts of this whole experience was that this fair was held in the middle of Comsewogue’s spirit week: Character Day. Students dressed as Spiderman, Disney, and funny characters definitely made an impression. Showing up in costumes is definitely a way to dazzle admissions.
The whole thought process of college just screams stress and this event caused the juniors and seniors to gather in the gymnasium with very mixed emotions. I know for myself, I had no clue what I was going to do, and the same for many people at the fair. Coming into the gym, many students hadn’t even thought of the future and this gave them an opportunity to open their horizons. The best questions presented to every college booth that I heard the most were, “What does your school have to offer for my desired degree?,” and many like, “How is the student life?,” and “What is the diversity rate in this school?” These are great questions to get to know the college and whether it will be suited for you. Take advantage of the resources that are presented in front of you, especially college fairs.
To fellow and future seniors, this is a time in your life that a big shift will happen. So, making decisions for this particular part of your life is very important because it’s a huge chunk of our lives. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t know what you want to do because there are so many assets that are given to you, just make sure you take advantage of what is offered.

It’s that time of year again. School is back in session and there are new seniors. The old senior lounge was in the teacher's faculty room for 2 years, then it finally switched this year to the old location, but there are some problems.
The senior lounge was in the teacher's faculty room and it had some cool perks, like an air hockey table, a bigger space, a microwave, an air conditioner, and a fridge. The room also provided a private area from the noisy cafeteria, but it only lasted for 2 years and now the senior lounge has been back to its original location since the end of September.
Some positive things about having the new senior's lounge are being closer to the door and the room might be getting a renovation. We heard that the senior’s room is going to be bigger, but the date is unknown for this project and how they will change the senior's lounge area. We also heard that the senior’s lounge was supposed to be done in the summer, but they pushed it back to a later date.
Of course, there are going to be some negative aspects of the senior’s lounge, like having the new senior’s lounge location being too close to other people and the area being way too narrow and compact. The senior lounge was also surrounded by a security room, cafeteria, and classrooms, so I think it is going to be hard to change the senior lounge. We think they might take some of the cafeteria areas to make the lounge wider, but that was just an idea and not yet confirmed.
During the 1st and 5th periods, we went around the school to interview some seniors and most of them said “The senior’s lounge sucks and is crowded, and also said “ I hated the new location because it was way too crowded”. Then, we talked to the principal and he said “The seniors had the teacher's faculty for 2 straight years” and said, “The teachers wanted their faculty room back”.
In conclusion, there are obviously some negative and positive things about the new senior lounge. We got perspective from the staff team and the students. They also got their reasons from both sides. Love or hate, the school works hard to help us with education.
