City of Columbia, MO / Storm Drain Marker Program

HELP US PROTECT YOUR LOCAL WATERSHEDS! Volunteer to mark a storm drain in you neighborhood. Volunteer to place a colorful blue & green “NO DUMPING” storm drain marker on local storm drains, as a reminder that whatever goes into a storm drain comes out in a stream. No experience necessary! We will mail you just one “NO DUMPING” marker for the storm drain on your street!  All storm drains on city, county, and campus streets drain directly to local waterways. Any substance other than rainwater that enters into a storm drain system goes directly into a local stream, creek, river or lake… Untreated… NO pollinates are removed!

The Plan is the product of over a year-long public and stakeholder engagement process that included three community workshops, online public surveys, presentations at board and commission meetings, engagement at community events, collaboration with concurrent planning efforts and close collaboration with an internal municipal team and the Mayor’s Task Force on Climate Action & Adaptation Planning.

Stream Teams (Missouri State-wide program)

Missouri has 110,000 miles of streams that provide recreation, drinking water and serenity for ourselves and our children, but they need your help. Stream Teams are made up of people with an interest in, and passion for, Missouri streams. If you are already a Stream Team, this website will provide a wealth of information on organizing your Team, participating in a variety of activities, and communicating with other Stream Teams all across the Show-Me state and beyond. If you are thinking about forming a Stream Team, we have information on that, too. Exploring the Stream Team website will show you how citizens have adopted a stream, volunteered their own time and effort to improve it, and have banded together with other Stream Teams to help improve Missouri’s streams.
