Before participating as a volunteer with CCMN you must read and agree to our nonpartisan agreement. If you've taken our orientation or volunteered before, you've already signed it! This is here for you to refer back to if needed!
All Common Cause volunteers are required to agree to the following statements by checking the box below. If the participating volunteer is a minor below 18 years of age, their parent or guardian should check the agreement below. The parent and/or legal guardian acknowledges that the participant voluntarily elects to participate in this activity with knowledge of the danger involved, and hereby agrees to accept and assume any and all risks.
Agreement & Code of Conduct:
I warrant and represent that I am participating in this nonpartisan effort to hold power accountable and improve democracy for everyday Minnesotan's. I will not disrupt any events I volunteer at or interfere in any way with the legal duties of elected officials, or the duties of event hosts.
I understand the Common Cause is a nonpartisan organization and agree that during my volunteer shift I will not elicit or convey to any person seeking assistance any partisan information or advocate any position on a ballot question. Nor will I behave in any way that compromises the integrity of this program or the work of Common Cause.
I will not distribute information about candidates or ballot questions during my shift and I will not wear any clothing or accessories that convey support for or opposition to any candidate or ballot question.
I will not make partisan political statements in support of or in opposition to any candidate for public office or in a ballot question, or make any statements that compromise the integrity of Common Cause Minnesota's programming.
I have read, understand, and agree to the Common Cause privacy policy described herein. To the extent that information disclosed to me by a voter or by personnel working for the Common Cause is confidential or private in nature, I will not disclose such information without prior written authorization, including posting via social media.
Additionally, in the event that any confidential information or material relating to law firms or organizations that are hosting and supporting Common Cause activities is disclosed to me, whether or not such disclosure is voluntary or accidental, I shall not make any further disclosure of any such information or material.
I shall keep confidential and follow established incident reporting procedures for handling of certain information, such as personally-identifiable information about voters who report election incidents. I will not redistribute private emails or other private communications without prior written permission from the person(s) whose private information would be disclosed by my actions.
I will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the online incident reporting system nor use it to gain unauthorized access to other systems. I will not use any of the Common Cause platforms (e.g. Slack, Hustle, Hubdialer, Google Site, Google Group, etc.) to harass individuals or organizations.
While acting as a Common Cause volunteer or otherwise acting in any manner which can be interpreted as being in the name of Common Cause, or with knowledge unique to Common Cause, I will not engage with the media or disclose information (in any form) to the media without prior written authorization.
I will not record and/or distribute phone calls and conversations, or any materials gained through my affiliation with Common Cause, without consent and knowledge of Common Cause, or in such a manner that impedes the integrity or conduct of this program or the electoral process.
I shall release, defend, hold harmless and indemnify Common Cause and their partners, members, employees and assigns, from and against any and all claims, demands, causes of action, losses, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs, arising out of, resulting from or pertaining to (i) any violation by me of this Code of Conduct; or (ii) any negligent or wrongful act or omission by me.
I understand that any violation of this Code of Conduct may result in termination of my volunteer status and may have other negative consequences. I attest that the name attached to this form is my true identity.

Volunteer safety release
1. Voluntary Participation: I acknowledge that my participation as a volunteer with Common Cause Minnesota is entirely voluntary. I understand the nature of the activities I may be involved in and affirm that I am physically and mentally capable of participating.
2. Assumption of Risk: I understand that volunteering may involve certain risks, including but not limited to physical activity, interactions with the public, travel, and environmental exposure. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation.
3. Release and Waiver: I hereby release and hold harmless Common Cause Minnesota, its directors, employees, partners, and agents from any and all liability, claims, demands, or causes of action for injury, illness, death, or property damage arising from or related to my volunteer activities, whether caused by negligence or otherwise.
4. Medical Treatment: I consent to receive first aid and/or medical treatment deemed necessary in the event of injury or illness while volunteering. I understand that I am responsible for any medical costs incurred.
5. Insurance: I understand that Common Cause Minnesota does not provide health, accident, or medical insurance for volunteers. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to obtain personal insurance coverage if desired.
6. Personal Safety: I understand that Common Cause Minnesota gives me personal autonomy in deciding when an environment is or is not safe for me. I have the sole decision and responsibility to decide when or if I need to exit a space for safety purposes.
7. Photography: I consent to Common Cause Minnesota photographing when volunteering. If I am not comfortable being photographed I will make it explicitly clear to staff members as soon as possible by email erage@commoncause.org
