2022...we got this Colyton is our Colyton School website to support learning at home as we navigate a new phase of the pandemic.
The focus of this site is to:
Be clear in what we provide as a school
Provide supplementary activities to our online learning activities (Google classroom for seniors and Seesaw for juniors) and physical hard packs.
Omicron brings with it new challenges. Instead of a 'lockdown' where we are all learning at home together, it is likely that schooling will be disrupted in different ways for different students. Students may be at home while learning and teaching continues onsite at school, classes may be at home while the rest of school continues or it may be that staff are at home and learning onsite at school is limited. As such, there is no 'one size fits all' model and what we provide may change over time, as we learn what works best.
What we do know though is that our staff are committed to learning and teaching, we have learnt a lot of tricks/ skills that support us when learning apart and most importantly - we know that whenever we return to classes at school, we also return to learning, to teaching and to smiling!
You have done this before - trust in what works for YOU as a family and find the tasks that suit what your family needs. Some families prefer online activities, some like hard-pack activities, some prefer hands on practical tasks and some prefer challenges. Some families have independent workers and others (especially with young ones) have learners who need an adult to sit beside them to complete tasks. As such... choose what works best for your learner and your family.
What we provide:
SENIORS (Karearea, Ruru and Kereru) Students access learning through their OWN accounts
Google Classrooms is where classwork is set. This is new territory for our year 4's and while they have been practising in class (thanks Mrs S-M) they may need a wee bit of extra support at the start.
Hardpacks may go out, dependant on student's ability to access google classrooms or whether this is for just a few students while the class continues onsite.
This website has supplementary activities in the class pages where students can pick and choose.
JUNIORS (Piwakawaka, Kiwi, Kokako and Tui) Parents access learning tasks through Seesaw
Seesaw will be the main point of contact and where activities are set
Hardpacks may go out if preferred. Our intention is to send a 'week of activities' at a time.
This website will have supplementary activities on the class pages.
We will likely use zoom as a connection tool. This is dependent on whether onsite class is continuing and the availability of staff.
We got this Colyton!
