WELCOME BACK STUDENTS!
I will do everything to provide the very best education for my students. I love what I do and I take your success very seriously. I look forward to meeting everyone and doing what I can to make this a GREAT school year!
What is Canvas?
Every student in the district has a Canvas account. It can be accessed on most computers, smartphones, and tablets. Using this tool, students will be able to complete homework and load other documents in an efficient and timely manner. I encourage parents to log in to your student’s account using these access codes:
ID – (student number)@columbus.k12.oh.us
PW – (student birthdate) MM-DD-YYYY
What is your teaching style?
It is my goal to encourage students to think independently and beyond my instruction. I do not give busy work. All assignments should be completed with academic integrity. Cheating is unacceptable and it doesn’t help anyone. Students are expected to complete every assignment on time and to be responsible for the work that they submit. I do not always catch every error or suspicious detail, but I do acknowledge work done well.
Will students need to purchase additional text?
Possibly. Students will receive due notice whenever they need to purchase a novel for the course. We will use online resources for most text and I will always alert students when a text is needed.
Do you give homework?
Students should expect to have some form of independent learning every night. However, the homework that you receive will be used to enhance the lesson that will be taught in the classroom setting. Homework for this course should not take more than 20-30 minutes to complete. Students should expect to have a vocabulary assessment at the end of every week.
**AP Language and Composition students have a more rigorous curriculum and should expect some degree of coursework to be completed daily. This is a college-level course, so the pace is very different. Students are expected to manage their time and be self-disciplined.
Do you give a weekly syllabus?
An agenda for the week is provided at the beginning of every week and posted to Google Classroom. Students may print this from Google Classroom or simply view it virtually.
How often do you grade?
Grades are usually updated every two weeks, or so. If I finish something sooner, then I will put the grade in. You may see a score in Canvas sooner than it is uploaded to Infinite Campus. This is normal.
Do you accept late work?
ALL assignments will be given a due date that is reasonable and understanding of the conflicts that may occur. I ask that you (students and parents) please stay in good communication with me and the school so that we can meet your needs as they arise. Check Canvas regularly. Late work is not accepted from students who disregard the rules and academic integrity of the course.
What is your policy on electronic devices?
Electronic devices are necessary in this virtual education setting. I do expect and hope that students will use integrity and maturity when using their devices. The only device that should be in use during class time is the device the student is using to attend class. Please DO NOT talk on your phone, insult others, play music, or share inappropriate images. This is still an academic environment even though we are working from our homes.
What is the best way to reach me?
I receive alerts on my phone when you email me at mrsfuentes610@gmail.com. Please send me a message at any time and I will respond to you as quickly as I can.
You can also contact me by messaging me directly on Canvas.
When are Parent Conferences?
Check back! To be determined...
