999550G - Gifted Support I

Grade 9 only: This course is designed to provide an introduction to essential skills for core classes in preparation for future advanced-level coursework. It also is designed to provide social-emotional support with issues related to giftedness. Research-based strategies, reading, writing, and speaking will be used to increase comprehension, strengthen skills, and enhance knowledge across content areas. This section is open to 9th-grade students identified as gifted in superior cognitive ability and/or creative thinking ability. ** Beginning with the 2022/23 school year, this course will become the prerequisite to the Gifted Support II course for 10th grade.


999560G - Gifted Support II

Grade 10 only: This asynchronous course is designed to give sophomores a head start on their college portfolio. Students will also increase their leadership skills by creating an action plan to address different types of community-based issues, or global issues and their effect on our country. Research-based strategies, reading, writing, and speaking will be used to increase comprehension, strengthen skills, and enhance knowledge across content areas. This course is open to sophomores who are identified as having superior cognitive and/or creative thinking gifts. **Beginning with the 2022/23 school year, 10th-grade students will need to have taken the Gifted Support I course as a prerequisite.

AP (Advanced Placement) Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are comparable to freshman college-level work and students may be eligible to earn college credit based on an AP exam. Please check with your high school for a list of AP courses available to your student. College Credit Plus

College Credit Plus is a dual enrollment program that allows all college-ready students in grades 7-12. who qualify, to begin earning college credit hours before graduating from high school. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Honors Courses

Honors courses are designed to move more quickly through the content than regular education courses. Course selections vary by high school, so check with your school's guidance counselor for more information.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Columbus Alternative High School (CAHS) offers International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. IB programs challenge students to excel in their studies and encourage both personal and academic achievement. Starting with their junior year, students at CAHS can take IB courses; and with the correct qualifications can earn an IB diploma.
