Teacher: Mr. Fleming
Room 202
Period 2
We can group China, Korea and Japan together in a region called East Asia. If you travel between the three, you will notice that they have differences but also have many similarities, for example all three languages contain Hanzi (know as Kanji in Japan) or Chinese characters. China - one of the oldest cultures in the world - has been very influential in East Asia. In this course we will study the geography, political figures, culture, inventions, and some of the dynasties. You will learn how they influenced each other and make connections to the world today. We will do many different activities. We'll draw maps and diagrams, do readings, drama and do some artwork. There will be assignments, tests and a final exam. Good luck, work hard and enjoy learning about our part of the world!

These are very important for our classroom to be an effective, supportive learning environment. (A great place to learn!) Please learn and obey the rules so we can have a great year.
Speak English in class. You are here to learn English so practice it.
Please contribute positively and actively to classroom discussions and the overall classroom environment, and work cooperatively and collaborate during group assignments. Respect each other and the teacher. Don’t talk when others are talking especially the teacher.
Be on time and ready to go. Time is important in this class, to meet expectations we need to work hard and not waste a lot of time.
As the course time is short, please make the deadlines given. All assessments must be handed in no matter how late.
NO chewing gum in class. Mr. Fleming does not like when his hands are stuck to desks or tables.
Do not copy and paste. You are stealing someone’s ideas and are considered a thief. This includes your classmates or the Internet! You will receive a zero on that project if you do. I realize that AI is a useful tool but as I want to work on your communication skills so please don't use AI.
Keep the room clean. Pick up after yourself!
We have a dress code in the school. Make sure that you are following it.
Bring materials to class with you. Going to your locker is robbing our class of time that we need to complete this course.
Do not leave the classroom without permission. Breaks will be given IF the teacher decides that they are warranted NOT when you want so don’t ask.
You are encouraged to ask questions during class and about assignments if you don’t understand. I can usually be found in the Guidance Office between 8:15 and 4:30.
